I’ll try berry soon. I have something up my sleeve.

‘my friend invited me on his boat Sunday to hit the delta. I might do an abbreviated trip to Berry Saturday. We shall see. As always I’m watching the weather. - wind in particular.

    Okay.

man I was tired. Being the human spot-lock on a windy lake burns some calories.

fishing with Katchaser we found a several cooperative bass. Both small and large mouth bass. Pretty much a jig fish kind of day. That’s right, jig fishing. I’m finally tuning in in how to fish a jig and how to detect the bite. Some bites were obvious. BAM! Fish on.

super fun nevertheless. I’ll let Kat show the big girl.

Yeah we did good man. Happy we got into a few... especially with the new direction we went AND a tournament going on.

Sill annoys me that tourney dude dropped all those semi-dead/dead bass into the water at the ramp. Not that hard to keep bass alive and if they’re looking mehhh.... let them go. I feel like tournaments should be “weigh/measure and release” at this point with all the technology we have.

Terrible GoPro screenshot of my biggest of the day:

Oh shit that’s the first I’ve seen of a Ascend with a trolling motor. I’ve been told to stay away from ascend brand ‘yaks. Apparently they’re pretty tippy and overall not as nicely built as similar priced kayaks in the same category.

EVERYONE has been ranting and raving about the Old Town kayak with the trolling motor package lately though... they look SWEEET.

Have you heard of the NuCanoe kayaks? They make one in particular that is 10 feet long, super light and has something like a 500lb capacity, can put a trolling motor or small motor on the back, 360 degree seat, and super wide so you can stand up with ease like a small jon boat. Think it's call the F10 model and a fully outfitted one is under $3k. Would get one if I had the space.

I dig it. I've never heard of NuCanoe but they seem legit. There are some wild one man skiffs out there today. Im truly after the lowest draft possible, an upright position and the ability to stand up. Tandem is also important to me because fishing with friends is the best, the lady also loves to come along, and I love being the point man when someone who knows whats what can row the caster into tight spots. A full size cooler/ plenty of room for gear, plus the Honda would make it possible to do there and back day/multi day trips with one truck on the upper sac, and larger water sheds including class 1/2 water floats. Might even chase stripper on the delta with it. I also have space issues holding me back.

Aren’t space issues the worst? I’ve been living in apartments with minimal space for the past 10 years and I told my wife after this current place we live, I’m getting nothing short of a condo/townhome at MINIMUM from now on. Sick of not having space and having to deal with random neighbors/people in general all the time.

I’ve totally landed on the NuCanoe as my next kayak. Just being able to slap on a small gas motor or trolling motor and take off would be amazing. Like you said.... you could go up and down any given body of water all day with no issue. Opens up the door for so much more fishing time.

Will that nucanoe be kayak fishing tournament compatible? I suppose leave the badass 2.5hp Honda motor at home. It will.

regular trips; just ignore the guy hanging on to the sides in his Hobie!

Yeah I’d likely stick with the trolling motor option. Should still be tournament legal (I equate that to someone like Greg B with his trolling motor deal) but if not, like you said, I can always take it off.

And hell no! If I get one of those I’ll throw you a strap and I’ll pull both of us around. Yorty here we come.

why can’t fishing be a mid morning event? It’s 2:45 am and I gotta go try to catch the high tide in the delta. Coffee, breakfast, load my truck. Illl report back later.

Wife wanted to get out on her stand up paddle board yesterday so we paddled around a part of lake Sonoma enjoying the weather.

Of course I couldn’t NOT have a pole with me, so I managed a few casts throughout the day. Ended up with one smallmouth.
