i like their content a lot and Matt seems like a good dude. After fishing clear lake using what he was instructing and getting nothing, then switching to wild colors made me kinda back off and think there is also a sales push on some of his content but thats with everything and everyone.

    Good tips though!

I feel like those guys grew up on the lake too, just from the level of fish IQ they seem to have towards it. Some of these places I see people fishing (and hammering the fish) that I'm not very familiar with, it's usually much harder when I go out, even with having the proper gear and general fishing IQ. Knowing the water like the back of your hand helps tremendously, especially when you're a YouTube channel trying to bring in viewers and occasionally sell stuff.

Oh for sure, Lake knowledge and experience is everything. I can go to Clearlake and not catch anything then turn around and go to my lake in my community and catch 10 fish in a day. The difference? I've got experience and know my Lake, I don't have that on Clearlake.

You can have the top of the line boat, gear, electronics, etc. but without the knowledge and experience of the Lake you ain't catching shit!

Just a 3’ leader with some frozen or fresh bait tied on with some magic string. Pretty easy.

    similar to this set up.

I recently found that Walmart actually has some good leaders that are already set up... just have to tie it on and put a hook/weight on. They only cost a couple bucks each too-not too bad.

Picture of what the single-hook leader looks like from Walmart:

Sweet. So the weight goes on the short wire right?

Yeah that’s usually how they are supposed to be rigged. I’ve seen rigs where the weight is at the bottom, leaving the bait free to float a few inches off the bottom, but it’s awkward. I’ve always done weight on short, bait on long.

Anyone been out this weekend? I went to the Russian River this morning and got skunked, but didn’t stay very long. Ended up mostly playing fetch with the pup instead.

Yeah they are pricey forsure. The only thing I’m curious about at this point is how long they last after a few big bites. I didn’t see anything about “tough material” so who knows how durable they are. For that much, they outta be like a quality frog that can take a beating for an entire season.

At least you worked on the yard... my doctor put me on house/yard work restriction (back issue) so the the boss (at home) was not convinced that fishing is allowed, but house/yard work is not.

On the plus side, I washed the mud out of the weathertech floor mats and rebuilt my grandpa's old Penn Squidder with an ultimate drag kit and stainless sleeve (on the kitchen table). Boss said it stank ip the whole house like a garage (using 2-4-C Marine grease for the internals). She'll be booting me out on the water in no time.
