This is a seldom fished spot, but I walk the dog by a lot. Since shelter in place, I see these two here all the time. Always new trash left behind. Nothing but styrofoam and cardboard pile worm boxes, rubber gloves, plastic bottles, chip wrappers, etc. Fuckin pisses me off to no avail, especially because it’s from fisherman. You even have to walk right past a trash can to leave. Tried to call em out, played the no speaky English game. At least I’m pretty sure they understood me

May your jacksmelt be infested with worms...

Yeah, I get it and understand/agree. I'm not sure how much that would impact local lakes/reservoirs (if they are even still open - I have checked). Like the pic Bret posted above - if you aren't in the same household, WTF - right?

Other day I broke out the tackle and wanted to do some practice casting. Go figure. Old rubber casting weight I had has a break in the eyelet. Went to cast it and the damn thing went flying.

FUUUCK that. I get not congregating. Fished a pier late night the other night (leopard pic) and was surprised to find others there. They were cool and we all kept our distance. I woulda moved to the rocks but I had no rod holder with me. I get closing the pier, and wont even argue. But no blanket ban. I'm lucky enough I can walk 500 yards to fishing. You'll still find me on the rocks past sundown...

This was last nights rocky adventure. I know there are striper back in the area, but all I keep catching are sharks and rays. Same thing happened last year. Sharks and rays til May...

Neighbor of mine caught a decent sized ray when I went out to Richmond with him. He said they were really good for soup (?)

Ive heard if you bread and fry the wings, they're pretty tasty. I think their bio-accumulation of mercury is waay high too. Ive never kept one, quite the opposite. Few people I've fished around know how/are comfortable handling them. Slip a finger or two into their mouth and there is a big cartilage in there to grab em with. Or you can stick a fingers in their holes where you think their ears are. Latter works better for the big ones. I make it a point to offer to unhook any ray someone else caught, as they often just cut the leader. Unacceptable in my book.

    THIS!!!!

I still can’t believe Washington banned sport fishing as well. It’s so huge there but they banned it for now which doesn’t bode well for CA.

Interesting! I caught a nice one in SoCal a few years back and like you do, we pulled it up by the big holes and didn’t have a problem getting the hook out. I couldn’t imagine pulling one up and just cutting the line.

We’ll see what happens. I’m not thinking the whole state will ban it, but forsure I think some counties will. Sucks ass either way. We will all be bummed as hell if they do ban shit.

More gear came in today. Hopefully I can get out to use some of it before everything closes down.

We’ll see what they say. I predict some form of closures of fishing around the higher-density places like the Bay Area first. Honestly at this point I just hope to god they leave something open, like part of the delta.

i think the "travel" or "congregate" are the key words here, and then discussion about the requests for delay for the seasonal openers, like they did for salmon:

"...grant authority to CDFW to decide whether to delay, restrict, or suspend sport or recreational fishing in order to prevent and mitigate public health risks that may arise when people travel for fishing trips or congregate while participating in available fishing opportunities. CDFW and the Commission have received requests from county representatives and local health authorities requesting delays to recreational fish openers such as the Eastern Sierra trout opener scheduled for April 25, 2020."
