I’ve heard great things about those rods but never tried them myself. $130 for 2 is a damn good deal. Lighter action rods or some heavy duty shit?

depends on what they’ve got offered for their BOGO. The rods change and it could include reels as well. I bought a Medium Moderate-Fast action bait casting rod and a Medium-Heavy Moderate-Fast action spinning rod with a reel.

Checked them out today and they seem nice I’ll get them out in the water this weekend

Went out to the Delta again yesterday for a few hours.... wasn’t planning on filming much, but ended up getting a few quick shots on the GoPro. A handful of decent largies and spotted bass and what seemed like nonstop action from smaller ones.

I haven’t kept bass in years, but decided to keep a few legal-sized ones today for dinner. forgot how good they taste!

Video if anyone wants a glimpse at what I was catching yesterday (re-uploaded shorter version):

The ned rig was putting in WORK yesterday. Caught a couple on a suspending jerk bait, but almost all came off the ned.

Took my father out to San Pablo Reservoir last month (first fishing outing for both of us in YEARS). Today we headed out to Del Valle. Hit the lake at 0645 and took a pontoon boat out. The latest report (10/18) -

100% can confirm the boils are huge! We hit the Swallow Bay area just before 0700 and at one point they were feeding all around the boat. Honestly never been smack dab in the middle like that. All sides of the boat! The BAD: NOTHING. They were absolutely not interested in anything I was throwing. Chatterbait with silver/bad shad trailers - nothing. Worked a berkely choppo for a bit as well, nothing. By 0900 we found ourselves hitting coves and switching to cut baits. Nothing. Saw a couple of eagles flying about on the opposite side of the lake just south of the dam. Ended up calling it a day at about 1500.

So while nothing this trip, looking forward to returning again to Del Valle.

Damn. Sucks you didnt catch anything, but sounds fun either way! Hopefully you get lucky next time. I had San Pablo reservoir on my "to-fish" list from a couple of years ago, but never made it out that way. I've heard and read that there are quite a few MONSTER catfish in that reservoir as well. Would be fun to throw a piece of shrimp or something out and see what picks it up.

I know that feeling. Fished for striper tuesday night. They were boiling like crazy, it was like a symphony of splashes on a calm night. My take? Unhooking and releasing some other jamokes' stingray...

Headed out at dusk tonight in Alameda if anyone is feeling a missed connection...

San Pablo definitely has some monster reports. We didn't catch anything that day either. Over the two, I prefer Lake Del Valle. Much larger area imo and the boils most certainly more exciting. Wednesdays are 1/2 off days for all boat rentals which is awesome since I don't own a boat.

Haven't had time to update this thread in a couple of days, but went out to the Delta again on saturday. Took the inflatable kayak again and actually had my brother meet me out there. Both of us were snug, but we managed to fit and get some fishing in. A little slower than the previous couple of weeks (can only guess it has to do with the wacky change in weather over the last week), but between the both of us, still managed to get 20 or so, with 5 or 6 being at least 12".

Main baits used were the trusty ned rig with a green pumpkin-colored worm and a sinking shad-colored rapala original.

Good luck if you go! Once this fire stuff dies down I’d love to roll up there and fish. I’ll let you know when I’m free and maybe we can plan something.

Sounds awesome. Hopefully you get a few good ones to take home.... so f’n good to eat

For sure man, I was actually thinking of doing a night out at like Clearlake Statepark. Camp right there on the lake and just go fishing all day/morning.

I also just broke down and bought one of the Shimano SLX 150 DC baitcasting reels. Got to love that next day shipping from Tackle Warehouse.

I’ve seen hella marketing for the SLX DC. Looks like a sweet reel. Saltwater and freshwater ready right?

Edit: Just checked...... looks like it isn't inshore-ready after all? Weird. Thought they were for some reason.

I think the Currado DC is rated for both? But that's a $250 reel.

Yup I think you nailed it. I’ve always admired the Currado from a distance, but never jumped on the train. Shimano as a whole for some reason... only owned a couple cheap Shimano spinning reels when I was young, but mostly I’ve been an Abu Garcia for everything. Just within the last few months I picked up a Daiwa Tatula SV TWS (which blew my abu’s out of the water). Should probably pick up a nice Shimano reel at some point as I know some of their models are sweet.
