Snagged it unfortunately. Those big grass carp don't really eat baits or anything as they primarily feed on the moss/grass in the ponds and lakes (hence why this one was so big.. unlimited food supply). I was working a jig on the bottom of this pond, felt the "thump" and set the hook. Instantly knew it was either a giant catfish or carp. I think the carp had been swimming around the jig (just curious about what it was) and his tail might have hit my line or something... enough for me to think it was a fish taking the jig. Dogged and dogged me.. still not sure how I got him in with my lighter bass tackle I was using.

@LTDSC waders and bibs vary so heavily across the board between style, comfort, material quality and PRICE. If you don't plan on using them for more than a trip to Alaska, Id say get a pair of waders from bass pro or something. I have a pair of the redhead waders (non-insulated) from bass pro (purchased a few years ago) and they have held up well. I think I got them for $60 or $70 out the door. Simms and those other brands are super nice, but they're like $300-$500 easy. If I used waders/bibs frequently, Id get the higher quality stuff, but I only use mine a couple of times a year at most. Hard to justify buying expensive shit when all I need is something to keep the water out. haha

most likely just going to wear them for this Alaskan trip then wear them for the nasty days when im striper fishing. So they wont get too much wear. Ill probably buy whatever waterproof budget ones i can find. Ill layer up when its cold.

Ill check out the recommendations! Thanks everyone.

Had a great night last night. Halibut right away, but shaker. Striper slappin surface like mad, got a 26”. Peeled drag a bunch of times. Got to use my new net. Boy was with me, he cried when I let it go  Hook was easy to remove so off she went. Unfortunately he killed my battery playing with phone so no pics

Pond and river fishing in Iowa for the last week was fun, but I’m ready to head back to the Delta! Anyone going out this weekend? These fires have put me at a standstill for now. Not sure if I’m even going to leave the house once this weekend.

    back to bone stock.
I’ve only fished the delta once and that was in a bass boat. I really want to try it with my new kayak.

but I’m staying local. I’ll hit up Fountaingrove lake if the Smokey air is diminished.

Once you find the right spots on the kayak out there at the Delta, its game over. You won't want to fish any other place with how many fish you can get into. Some people can't seem to figure out the Delta and they give up on it, but if you do some google mapping and exploring, OH MAN. Its nonstop action.

Yeah the tide ain’t great, that’s forsure. Smoky air is a double “bleh.” I can only imagine the air quality out there right now. An hour on the water could feel absolutely terrible. Lol

I think it was you who said it too, but a friend of mine who goes out there all the time said it’s been a slower bite lately. But if a good tide, still probably a 10+ fish day.

Went back last night for photographic revenge... Not quite the behemoth from the night before, but I’ll take it. 20”

Incoming tide or bust for this guy over here. Too long of a drive to risk getting only one or two black bass on the delta. Lol
