Agree about the Largemouth. Walleye is best tasting FW fish IMO, smallmouth is pretty good though I’d take a Bluegill or Crappie anyday.

Crappie is DANG close to Walleye on the tasting scale if done right, IMO. Best way to get them are around bridge pilings and docks with small jigs. Luckily bluegill hang out in the same area so if no crappie, you can get a basket of bluegill. lol.

I keep keeper halibut but almost always let striper go so long as they’re not gut hooked. That’s the vast majority of what I fish for. Rockfish lingcod salmon if were in the ocean. Fish tacos so good. My son loves to eat the fish we catch, and he’s a picky eater lol. I try and teach him that if everyone kept every fish they caught there’d be no more tomorrow. We only keep what we’ll eat, even have neighbors that take carcasses for soup/stew.

I’ve taken three halibut this year. 24, 25, and 31”. Lotta shakers

Kept one 24” striper when I was on friends boat. Let a 10lb bear go get fatter

No. They took that temporary dam out now.

Went to lake mead this weekend in Nevada. Rented a boat and drove around the lake for the day. Did some fishing, swimming, and other dumb shenanigans. Water was literally 30-40 feet clear visibility. It was pretty wild. Next time I’m definitely bringing some goggles!

For fishing we did pretty good for not really trying to fish that much and not ever fishing the lake before. Total, I want to say we got 15 or 16 bass.. largemouth and smallmouth. Mostly dinks, but still fun!

Just looking at the weather around the state.... places I usually fish like the Delta.. holy smokes the temps are dropping quick! Looks like the fall bite is officially on now. Need to hit the Delta a few more times for black bass before it gets too cold and they start to get lethargic!

shit, the water being so warm may buy us some time.

Im hoping Berryessa opens back up soon before the fall bite. They screwed us out of the spring bite with COVID shutdowns, if we miss fall bite im going to riot.

i personally never keep fish. Its more the sport and fun of the fight. Release it quickly and move on to the next one.

my in laws though, if its keeper length they're keeping it regardless what i think/feel.

Been fly fishing for trout for over twenty years now. Have yet to keep one. Of course, I do fish a lot of places that are catch and release only. But, bass, I'd keep those if they taste good. And Striped bass are not even native to the Delta. I say keep'um if you can eat'um.

they're tasty when cooked. I enjoy eating them and like even large mouth fried up. I just have too much fun catching rather than cleaning/eating.

I honestly would not be surprised if Berryessa doesn't open back up this calendar year.

Yeah cleaning them is a time-consuming PITA job. If I do keep some one day, it’s because I have it instilled in my head from the moment I get on the water that I want a fish fry... otherwise I’m the same way. I just catch and release and don’t have to worry about filleting shit after a long drive home.
