I feel the same way. But: I met this guy on this tiny local lake near a golf course. (;)) he had this giant kayak. Looked like a floating dock. Biggest hobie you can buy. He could walk around on top. I would be swimming if I took a step. Anyways, he was throwing a giant swim bait. He had three heavy rods, three heavy swim baits. Just casting for the horizon all day. Huge splashes when the lure hit the water. He told me he caught an 8! (“Sure he did”). I thought he was wasting his time....then Bam! He fought a big bass. He said a five. I didn’t see it, but Allen nearby saw it. He confirmed it was a great fish.

then a few months later. My friend now. Trolling a big dumb bluegill looking bait. Same small lake. I thought it was foolish. He was going too fast in my opinion. Hmmm.. same Hobie only one size smaller. He does a sharp u-turn which slowed his bait down. I heard him yell when the big bass hit. It was also a five.

the first guy told me he feels skunked unless he catches a giant. He mentally doesn’t even count the smaller fish. Haha. I’m not that guy. But he said only big fish eat those giant baits. Total commitment to catching big bass. It might be nice to have at least one in the boat. 40 casts. Before diving for the Ned. :) there is no way I could cast a big swim all day. I’m like you. But that big “what if”

I totally believe the guy's thought that he feels like he gets skunked if he doesn't get a huge one. After you start catching bigguns time after time, you get used to it and don't want the small ones. lol. Yeah the big what if is what I often struggle with. It's totally true that those baits catch bigger ones on average, but the time it takes to get one could be a lonnggggg time. If I throw a bigger bait like that, Ill make sure I hit the same spots with a jig, ned, or drop-shot after I get done.

I may just have too. Poor Tundra is gonna have to wait a bit longer for some new parts while I feed my fishing addiction.

Beat up in HMB today. Got rocked in the conditions on a friends 24’ boat. We turned around a mile or two out, shit was getting outta hand. Never been seasick before but my buddy started puking and I lost it big time right after lol. We still set 5 pots on the way in, fished close to the harbor for hour or two (skunked) and picked up a few huuge red rock crabs. Had a few female Dungeness too but let go. Had everything ready for a rockfish feast tonight too :(

Earlier this week was the some of the best Mavericks surf ever. Calmed down quite a bit since 30-40' tuesday. Buoys today were 6@12 and 7@8 with a good chop outside the harbor from a brisk north wind. There were a few butt-pucker moments early on. We quickly dropped off the crest of a big wave, and SLAMMED the hull. We tried to go slower there on but rolled off the back of one while our captain let off the throttle at the wrong time lol. We went pretty fuckin nose high and decided to turn tail home. Not worth it

Super foggy today. It got thick. Easy to get turned around. I’d freak in the ocean.

Fished two hours today and got one. Had to leave to deliver gifts since we cancelled our dinner plans w family.

my friend stayed and slayed them; including two big bluegill. Grrrr. I might brave the rain tomorrow. My kayak is waterproof. :)

Damn. Nice reels! You don’t like them? That SX is pretty smooth. Looks like slower reel speed too good for crank baits.
