I have been met at the water's edge a couple of times and been through quite a few checkpoints. I have never had any problem with any of the wardens over in Ft. Bragg.

I know of one in Concord LOL. I thought his relative was a game warden. I don't remember the first name off hand but if I hear it I will know.

Havnt in years. My cousin is a big ab diver up in Elk near mendo. My uncle was a famous ocean kayaker. Used to go when I went up there to visit. The ab are so abundant since they started the yearly limits.

I wouldn't say they area abundant by any means. Abs are found all along the California coast. However, fishing for them is banned in SoCal (declining population) and a disease called withering foot syndrome which causes them to lose their ability to hold onto the rocks-if they can't hold on to the rock, they become food for another species.

Fishing for abs is only allowed north of San Francisco and is best in Mendocino/Sonoma areas. That's a pretty small area to focus fisherman.

Limits have done a lot to slow the decline but over the entire fishery, populations aren't increasing at any great rate. It wouldn't surprise me to see fishing banned for a while on the Northern coast as well. Be nice if they were easily grown and transplanted to the oceans but they are difficult to grow and the success of transplants isn't well understood either.

Ling Sinclair, My uncle and his dad Steve Sinclair owned Force 10 and he invented the sport of storm sea kayaking. My Step mom, Jane Sinclair/Lewis has been there a long time. I will be up there visiting my family memorial day weekend. My Family has a long history in the area starting with my grandmother when she owned the Argonaut in up on the ridge. It burned down a LONG time ago. If they are 6th generation Elk then no doubt they know my family.

Then maybe my cousin just knows the good spots. Last time we went out last year we caught out limit of legal size Ab in 5 minutes. You could pick them out from the boat.

With a boat and low tide, you're able to get out where fewer people go so this doesn't surprise me.

Back before the yearly limits though it was much harder. Even with a boat and knowing the spots. took us a while to pick out a daily limit of legal size ab.

Nice. Salmon is my thing (but love to live bait halibut, rock fish, etc.).
Where do you primarily fish out of?

Yes, I've heard of usafishing. You on coastside or fullspeed? I finally got out two weekends ago, out of HMB (my home port is Sausalito). Here is a copy of my report (also in the fishing section).

My fishing report from my fishing club. Appropriate as I just towed with my Taco for the first time (man it needs some airbags bad).

"Great to be back out getting some on-the-water mental therapy. Finished breaking in the new truck so we towed down to HMB early Sat morning to try to get some pink.

Picking up some crew in SF on the way down, loading beers here.

Wind kept blowing and by this time we were stuck at 7. Kept trolling towards home and hooked up 3 more times but they were all short. Finally called it a day around 5pm and motored back to port in the slop. Fun ride.

As we're pulling into the harbor we see the Warden driving away. Sweet, no time wasting on checks.
