Little help. I got a little paranoid the other day while walking my dogs. I was about 50 yards away from my truck, about to get further away, when I heard a vehicle pull up close the taco. I turned around to see an older S10 Blazer pulled up just in front of the taco, but at an angle, as though it was not planned to stay long. A guy got out of the passenger side and started walking towards my truck. I watched intently when the guy spotted me. He then decides to address me. He says, "You alright'?, or something to that effect. I replied, yes. He turned around, got back in the Blazer, and off they went. Now, I cannot think of any reason someone would think I might be in distress, as I was parked on the side of the road in a dirt turnout. No flat tire, no steam indicating over heated. In fact, they would have seen there was no one in the vehicle. So, I can only conclude that they had ill intent. Good thing they decided to leave or I would have returned ill intent x 10. Or, more precisely, 15 rounds of .45 ACP.

Anyway, it got me thinking about my tailgate security. I have a topper that locks. But the tailgate does not. I saw a thread here on TW about a Pop and Lock, but didn't see much success reported. Any other ideas about that?

 

Thanks bro!!! Yeah the extended stay was nice but sure wish I had a few of those days to recover from jet lag before I went back to work. I was hating life today

 

I have pulled over and offered people gas on the side of the road multiple times. Also I often let people use my floor jack from the truck when I see them pull out a stock can jack. Just my way of giving back. But I get what both of you are say. Probably to quick to think about pulling a gun but also its nice to be prepared

 

I took your first post as an attempt at humor. Now I see you're actually judging me by commenting yet again. I'd say it appears you are trying to enter the 'dick' zone. If their intent was to help I would not have had to act as described. But cars park in that spot all the time to walk dogs, or ride bikes, or just hike. It was 'obvious' my vehicle was in no danger, nor broken down. I was not standing nearby with that helpless look on my face. The engine hood was not up, indicating trouble. And they did not see me until he was right next to my truck. I, too, would offer help to a stranded motorist, and have done so. And would do so in the future. Having lived in Oakland now for 17 years one becomes a bit suspicious, and cautious, after having ones house burglarized three times, a murder committed on the next door neighbors side yard, and had your car vandalized on numerous occasions, and watched as some jackwagon stole my next-door neighbors car just as I walked out my front door. That's life in the city. I didn't create that problem, I only respond to the environment.

 

I've given rides to folks whose car broke down. Jumped anthers car at 3 a.m., helped a kid try to get his scooter running after it died in front of my house, and numerous other good smaritan deeds, but I can see when someone is not where they're supposed to be. I'm nearly 60, and a bit broken down, so I have an equalizer, just in case. Would I have used in on a car their? Probably not. But if confronted, who knows how the they will react. Just saying'.

 

No one has to know my story. You assumed the guys might be trying to offer assistance. I'm telling you I was not in the vicinity to give the impression I was in distress. When he saw me the guy addressed me like someone with their hand in the cookie jar. There was no further exchange. You might expect someone to say, "Just checking, have a nice day".

So, I guess you have no suggestions on locking the tailgate?

 

Jason, you were not there. Going code RED will have a different meaning to each and everyone of us. Prior training plays a big part of where you draw that line. The Blazer was "Shopping," in Cali. In another state the rules are different, and so is the manner in which they shop.
