Yeah, all pros and cons I guess. I second your thoughts about the SAS and camper. On the one hand I like the Habitat because it functions like a normal shell when not in use, great since I use my truck for work, but I don't think it's that well sealed off to the elements compared to a FWC. Like rain for example, sure you covered, but when you fold the tent all that water is stuck on the inside.

I considered SAS since I could run the same size or taller tire without all the same clearance issues. The truck will be more capable off road, and since I already have a shell and RTT I wouldn't be loosing anything. On the other hand, I loose my front wheel sensors and traction control and still have to deal with the RTT.

That scout setup looks awesome! Theres something about the looks of those and old Bronco's that have me wanting to build one up, but unless you rebuild the whole thing with modern components nothing beats a Taco for adventures.

I wasn't saying to get a FWC over a Habitat. For daily drivers and general utility, the Habitat is perfect! Like the Flippac, the bed space is the same as having a camper shell. The Flippac is great, but the Habitat address all of its deficiencies.

After seam sealing the rain fly, I had no water issues with the Flippac. The habitat should be fine and way more spacious than my tiny FWC. Easier to set up, and no rainfly to deal with.

The Scout was awesome and any breakdown was caused by my deferred maintenance. Agree that the Tacoma is a way better platform for exploring. I do miss those power leather seats though...

Oh no, I guess in my head I'm going back and forth between a base FWC and the Habitat, since the prices are close. I've never been in a FWC to get a good feel for one though. Maybe that will help me decide.

just make sure to wipe the shaft down (yes) after trips/winter. Mine had build up in the gap on the lower cup, when i fully compressed them in Pismo it shredded my seal.
