I'm looking to get my first shotgun, what would you guys recommend and what are some good gun shops around Sac? I know people that have gone to just guns and they claim that they are a little pricey.

pump no doubt, 12 gauge, and I'm still trying to decide on if i want a pistol grip or not because they generally raise the price and I'm trying to stay below $400

Well if you go pistol grip, I'd stay away from Mossburg. The thumb safety sucks balls with the pistol grip. Takes away too much time to remove you hand from the grip to turn off the safety and come back again.

If you go brand new and pistol grip, Remington 870 is probably your best bet. I personally am not a huge fan of the remington action, but there's a huge aftermarket for them.

If you go used, I'm a big fan of the older Winchester 1300/Ranger 120. The safety is in front of the trigger guard. Super easy to turn off and bang....not to mention the action is like butter.

Yeah, I was looking at the 870. There's a store called shooters warehouse up here and I'm going to check it out on sunday and see what they recommend.
Why don't you like the remington action? And it's going to be used for home defense until i can get a 1911 :D

Because I used to have a winney. When I compared them side by side it's night and day difference. To me, the winney is just soooo smooth. It's short, crisp, clean and fast.

I am by no means saying the 870 is a bad pump. IMO probably the best pump action you can buy brand new for under $400 and the aftermarket is plentiful.

Everyone has their own opinions about the differet firearms. The fact is there's no right or wrong answer. My suggestion is to go rent a couple and find out which one YOU like and which one fits YOUR needs the best.

I think I'm going to look more into the 870 because of how many different options there are for the gun, I just can't wait to get my hands on allthe different guns:D
