Messaged my friends an hour or so ago just to let them know I was thinking about them. The good news is they've filed their insurance claim though I have no idea how long it will take to get back into their home.

I'm sure that in the days to come, there will be more concrete ways to help. Right now, the Red Cross is asking for money. Not donations of food/water/animal feed or even time.

I have two radios both have uhf and vhf frequencies and I have a cheat sheet of all cal fire, usfs, county sheriff's, and international fire. Not sure about what the last one is never heard a thing there.
Now each radio I can set to scan both vhf and uhf two separate frequencies each at the same time so it scans about a 150 frequencies every six seconds. This all said, I just listen to a very super modified scanner that can also transmit on all the "channels" that almost every law enforcement for and military may ever use. I'm a radio freak so to speak.
I don't like to get all the details out because there's too many to list.

Gave to the red Cross three years ago and got a letter from IRS saying it's not a write off as donation really got me thinking. I have yet to pay that one off.

Happens all the time, no matter what’s the situation, Hurricane, flood, fire, etc

I’m up in Lake County, about 45 mins south of Clear Lake. Last I heard the fire was up to 2k acres. Wish I had more information for you but I just moved up here and I’m unfamiliar with the area still.

They’re a “for profit” organization. So no write off for that.

They do some good work though.

Edit: so “for profit” sounds stupid.

They’re a regular company that generates revenue for their owners. I should just say they are not a “non-profit” organization.

I learned that the hard way. Gave a bit much and now I owe Sammy some shekles. I'll get it in time just not worried yet.

People are driving like scared retards. Even motorcycles were ripping by me splitting lanes that weren’t moving and riding on the shoulder.

    Going way too fucking fast.

They do some great things. I’m sure it wasn’t wasted.

If that makes it any easier.

I have a coworker go through something similar to you; so I got to learn through them...

I do like what they do and what they are about just feel like there shouldn't be a huge profit on disasters. I believe people should simply be nice and help out their fellow man. Kinda silly I guess.

Not everyone can afford to give money. Many can give time or things people might need right away. I have friends who have organized deliveries of stuff people need. Plus, they bring animal feed and try to arrange boarding/transportation if necessary-people helping people-I'd rather give to them and get nothing in return than give to Red Cross and see 20% of it go to "management" or whatever,

 No such thing as a non-profit.
