Well it's not my DD. It wasn't until I got a DD a few years ago that I added a more things to the truck to really affect the gas mileage: regeared, mud terrains, RTT. So it really didn't matter at that point

Smiles per gallon are more important to me. If I cared about gas stations I'd buy a Tesla

    Check out the build
I just checked to see where I'm at. Fuelly shows about ~230, but that's only looking at 17, 18gal fill ups. My Scan gauge is pretty well calibrated and shows ~300 until empty.

Corrected miles I'm assuming. Us MT regeared guys get better range than actual. Mine says 250/ tank, but it's more like 220. I just take the trip mileage and multiply by 0.88.

I use the possibly inaccurate cross- multiply method based on GPS speed.

On a recent run, my gas light came on and I didn't want to slow the convoy. I didn't calculate for driving 80 mph and the mileage dropped significantly. Since there were plenty of rigs with gas cans, I drove another 38 miles after the light came on. You know... for science. The needle was way below the line. Filled up and there was still 1.8 gallons in the tank. Light usually comes on when there's 4 - 4.5 gallons left.

So in order to claim 250+ miles/ tank, I'd suggest that everyone carry a gas can and drive 30 - 40 more miles after the light comes on. You'll feel better about your range and driving that far, with the low fuel light on, makes you feel both distressed and exhilarated. Easiest mod ever.

Pro tip from @MJonaGS32 : Turn the car off. Check the needle position and take note. That is completely empty. Thought I was running on fumes, but turned the engine off at a traffic stop, turned it to the "on" position and the needle moved. At that point I have well over 2 gallons.

    V8 FTW.

My 85 pick up had a big dent (and a bent pickup) in the gas tank and would start sucking air at about 8 gallons left*...

I filled up every 100 miles until I replaced the tank.

But it’s not a daily so I didn’t care. Just made doing longer trails harder. I don’t like having to carry extra gas.

Drove my '06 Tundra from Sacramento 426 miles to my sister's in Ladera Ranch on a single tank. Was going about 80 most of the way down on I-5 (aka "the 5"). Loved having that bigger tank for road trips like that.

Yeah, but you actually commute. I drive 10 miles each way to work and deal with a couple hills and the rest is city driving. As soon as I got my truck I never cared again about mileage. Knew it was going to be shit with the V8 and 34's. I keep track of it via an app, but just to see if I change my driving habits if it helps.

I think I'm at 12, it's awful. I'm going to be bummed dropping to a 18 gal tank though. Loved that range when went on road trips.

I was driving the opposite direction so I didn't get a good look at the back, but it had the older version habitat like mine with the cutout aluminum sides.
