How do you find out if the vehicle is eligible? I heard it was until 2010. I did not get any letters.

I went to the toyota web site, www.toyota.com/recall, and entered the VIN.

Thank you Ian!! I punched in my VIN and you know what? It pulled up a picture of a Barcelona red access cab!! How cuuuuute!!! :)

But mine is not on the list. Funny...I thought it was extended to 2010.

    You're welcome!

I ended up calling to find out what the BOB campaign was about-I guess it's TRD wheel sets that have issues with TPMS. I also asked about the airbag wire. Mine doesn't show as needing it. The service guy said it's only about mid way through the '09 build.

My truck originally came from there. It was a trade with Antioch Toyota. I guess nobody there wanted babytruck. :(

I saw a sticker on the window that said Magnussen Toyota Auburn.

So I wonder if they extended it to include 2010?

Edit: Ian you posted as I was typing. Does that mean trucks MADE in mid 2009 or 2009 year vehicles?

I KNEW it was extended. I didn't realized I had this saved:

    http://www.tacomahq.com/1629/steering-wheel-recall-expands/

Toyota has officially announced a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for the recall on pickups and one important thing to note is the recall has been expanded to include all 2005-2012 model year Toyota Tacoma’s. The recall is to replace a faulty steering-wheel spiral assembly. Part of a possible design flaw, friction could develop between spiral cable and the retainer in the steering-wheel assembly. This friction could lead to a loss of connectivity with the driver’s airbag and cause the airbag not to deploy in a crash.

Was I being mean though?

I just don't like it when he's slamming on our friend who is giving away stuff he could be selling - the thread was posted with specific instructions that it be local.

And it's YOUR fault, ya know..

Wow. I guess I'll be calling back. Maybe they just haven't gotten around to adding our VIN numbers to the list or bothering to tell their dealers about the expansion?

I was going to get him one just to stop his whining but then I saw his low post count and I went to see what kinds of postings he does. I decided not to because of his posts, most of it is going after stuff people are giving away or selling cheap!! And he doesn't really contribute to the TW community!! And then he goes and tries to sell an owner's manual for 30 bucks?? I got mine for half that at the dealer when they put the wrong year one in mine!!

Hey maybe I should offer to sell him my 2009 owner manual for 31 bucks!

When I first found that link, I called the day after it was announced and Toyota said that he was not told of the extension (well, yah. I called the NEXT day) and that I have to wait for a notice.

I asked him if they were going by year order and he said he had no idea.

If your light is on, they change it now. But I don't think it's with the redesigned part. The main thing in the first notice was that they didn't have a fix for it yet. My guess is that they're manufacturing a new one with a thicker wire. Toyota has had wiring fail elsewhere from skimpy wires that were too thin (I had to solder new wires into our previous '05 highlander to fix the heater controls...an $800 part). Knew about the fix from a DIY fix: Love the Internet and all the forums!

The light is not on, I just don't want to find out the hard way that the bags don't work.
