    Thousand year?
A lot of our projects are designed to handle 100 year storms but not 1000 year.

Which creek is that? I was trying to remember what actually feeds that besides the penstocks/powerhouse.

It just means 1 in 100 chance of it happening any given year. That was a freak squall line that was warm, and moving upslope. I wonder how much snow it melted in its course. There was localized flooding in urban areas that never flood, just becaue the storm drain system capacity was overwhelmed, or in some cases, perhaps clogged.

Do the bare minimum to comply with federal/FEMA standards, right? What types of projects do you typically work on? Any critical infrastructure, or is it mostly housing and commercial?

I'm finding risk assessment more and more interesting these days after having worked on strategic flood planning for the past 4 years. Feel like I'm still just barely scratching the surface.

    Holy shit!

    This reminds me....

On Monday afternoon around 3pm I was heading north on 880 around automall parkway in lane one (OHV lane) going about 75mph on my motorcycle.

I was passed, in my lane, by another motorcycle like I was standing still...I'd guess he was hitting close to 100mph. The OHV lane was already going 25 mph faster than traffic. The rider was weaving in and out of traffic probably doubling the average speed.

Within 5 minutes traffic had come to a crawl. I lane split to the front to find 3 cars stopped on the highway. In front of the cars was the same motorcycle on it's side. The rider was being helped up. His jeans and jacket (looked like a carhart) were torn and I could seen road rashed skin underneith. The guy was super lucky to be standing let alone alive.

If you ride please be safe and don't ride like a jack ass.

The main spillway is rated for 100 year storm.

They had to put in the auxiliary storm drain when they did some major improvements to the power house 30 or so years ago.

What what I understand the main spill way is rated for 8000cfs and the auxiliary is rated for 23,000 cfs.

Residential and commercial mostly. Some of these residential projects are rather large, thousand plus lots. A lot of these big developments have drainage ponds AKA bio retention ponds that are designed to withstand 100 year floods.

Small potato’s compared to 1000yr flood.

So the reservoir sits in a creek bed with a diversion for creek water upstream of the reservoir around the reservoir and dumps it down stream of the Moccasin dam.

The reservoir should only see Hetch Hetchy water. Sometimes Moccasin creek over tops the diversion structure and spills into Moccasin reservoir which is bad and in the case yesterday very bad.

Fortunately we had shut down the Hetch Hetchy aqueduct for some planned system work before all this happened so there was/is no Hetchy water being delivered to the city.

So, squeaky squeaky TC uppers getting some lube. Looking closely at driver side coil. There’s scraping on it. Odd. So upon further review, in full droop the UCA is hitting the coil. What gives?

Quit leaving pavement and stick to the mall.

    Also, rotate the spring.
