5.29s make 6th gear (0.58:1) useable at normal highway speeds. At 2000 rpms and 33s, you're doing about 65 mph (68 with 35s). I've heard from the experts, that's about where you want to be.

So, it’s the factory gearing in the transmission and differentials that makes the truck feel sluggish. Sounds like Toyota went to extremes to find a happy medium between fuel mileage and drive ability.

I’d rather have the diesel or my 4.0 with the auto box I currently have now. I’ve driven the 3rd gen. It’s really not my cup of tea.

No idea about 3rd gen, but for 2nd gens I believe it was only the TRD sport that came with 8.75 diff.

Sacramento just lifted the 14 day quarantine for COVID19.

Now if you get it they’re just like “hey stay home and take over the counter meds pls”

Yeah and the shifting maps are screwy. I think driven by trying to get the best mileage.

I feel like it shifts as fast as it can to the second overdrive. "S" mode in 5th gear is pretty good. ECT button helps.

I've gotten used to it but I never owned a 2nd gen so I have nothing to compare.

Except my old 99 24V Dodge Cummins which had a 4 speed with overdrive. Huge gap between 2nd and 3rd. That truck was a huge pain in the ass, I'll never own another diesel (unless its brand new and I don't have to work on it...).

I’ve driven a few diesels and used to work on them as well. Toyota makes a solid diesel power plant. It may just be a pipe dream of mine, but I want a diesel. And I love my 2015(even if it isn’t as fancy pants as my Ford). I have said it many times; if Toyota drops a diesel power train on us here in the states, my truck is for sale and I’m starting over with a new diesel platform. I want that extra range and torque.

    Yes.
So I snapped my side retainers that hold the bumper cover to the fenders when I decided to not be delicate while taking off my old bumper. $65 mistake for being impatient.

I also just figure that everything plastic on our trucks are just one time use pieces anyways

Only off road and pro get rear 8.75 diff. Front is still shitty 8". I mean CV axels will fail way before diff breaks. I used to have a second gen. Then I had to sell it for some reason and then couple years later when I was in the market for a pickup truck I looked for second gen , but it didn't make sense. Back in 2017, I was looking for 2014/2015 2nd gen. Trucks that had 30-40,000 miles were going for the same price of a newer third gen. After test driving 3rd gen, I felt it was a better truck overall than second gen. Interior was nicer and quieter and had a lot more bells and whistles. Plus, I will be keeping this truck for at least 15 years. No plans for 37's yet, but it will happen sooner or later lol.

Same. Had a 1966 F250 and that C4 transmission had 3 gears with no overdrive. I took it on the freeway once to go from Alameda to Livermore, and never again after that one time. After 10k miles in the last year, I feel like the gearbox on the Tacoma knows how I drive under regular conditions, but it feels like it wants to lurch.

My experience exactly. I wanted to buy used but like you said they had the same cost and the interest rate on my loan was significantly better on a new truck.

Yeah.... Thats what the "S" on my corolla stands for... Stealth. That sounds better than "it was the lowest mileage cheapest commuter they had on the lot at the time I needed one". Haha
