It started about 5 miles from my home. Luckily I was also upwind. It's since made it down to Big Pine. I should be safe unless some crazy shit happens.

Does any one have an experiences or referrals to any JDM motor imports or Toyota engine builders?

    Head gasket blew after 265k.

Clearly not salvageable. LS upgrade required :D

I'd say any competent mechanic should be able to repair that. My only experience was my 93 4Runner but that was covered by the dealer.

Ha! One day, but the 5VZ-FE is going to have to do for the time being.

I've got a few people I'm talking with about both a JDM motor and engine build, but seems like regardless, I'm 2/3 month out until my truck is running again.

Yota1 is and 25-26 weeks out for a replacement. Toyo Mart have a long block with 138k on the dash. I may be on the same boat. I’ll rent a test kit to confirm.
    Dealer head kit is $861.

Anyone have a shop rec in or around the East Bay that could put in a URD Throw Out bearing and SS Sleeve? Have an appt at Shaffers but it's two months away. The truck sounds more like a helicopter currently.

These guys have a crazy long lead time but are almost local for a rebuild engine

Yota1 was a top recommendation from quite a few Toyota builders and fabricators that my dad and I know. If it wasn't for the lead time, I'd be going to them no questions. Still tempting to wait out the time, but that basically means that I'll be missing out on the whole Summer. Truck would be down until August/September.

I've also been in talk with Main Machine and Dave's Performance Engineering for complete rebuilds. They're looking at a 3 month lead time, but that's assuming they can get all the parts and also assuming the heads aren't cracked.

The one JDM place I've been talking to is JDM Engine Bay and they have 5 engines coming in March, so maybe I'll take a look at those with some detail and possible throw a JDM motor in. Truck would only been down until April assuming motors are in good condition.

Yup I know how you feel. I’m in the same situation. I sure don’t want to miss out on the summer this year for sure.

Yodaman in Santa Rosa may be able to help. Not sure if they do those major overhauls, but they worked on my truck a couple of times and they seem to know whats up. Worth a shot to check!
