Always wondered if adding a snorkel is an instant fail. Guess need to ask f it comes with a CARB sticker before buying

I guess I should just keep it reversible just in case. Better than risking a fail.

Something else you can do is ask the smog technician whether he can do a quick visual inspection prior to the actual test. That way, you at least have a chance to un-fuck things before the actual test.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Adding a snorkel is not an instant fail. If a smog tech says it is (which you probably wont find one that does) they are an idiot, go somewhere else.

You are not modifying any part of the smog system when adding a snorkel. Smog is considered from the air box to the engine. You are modifying BEFORE the air box.

I don't think you'll find a snorkel with a CARB sticker, because CARB does not apply to a snorkel.

Just making jokes. I agree @El Taco Diablo that it shouldn’t matter where the air is coming from as long as the air filter on looks factory or has a CARB sticker.

After doing some reading about CA smog inspection, I don’t think my truck will pass safety anyway. For some reason I thought they only had emissions here. Oops.

What makes you think it wont pass safety?

I've never had to pass a safety inspection (including bringing in from outside the State). Are there safety inspections in CA? I'm unaware of any.

I didn’t think there were. I didn’t have one when I brought mine to CA. But trying to figure out the emissions part, safety inspections came up.

Just from the checklist I think I have too many lights (most are covered though), beadlocks, tint, not sure if my bumpers would pass but I’m not positive.

The only safety inspections I'm aware of in CA are Commercial, and there is a safety inspection checklist when a vehicle is being used for a drivers test.

My truck, with 28 different switch activated lights (yes, I have that many lol) and a Trail Gear front bumper and custom rear bumper, with lift and all the other stupid shit I've done to my truck... passed safety inspection for my son to take his behind the wheel test with it.

I did not have my side windows tinted at that time... but little known fact, you can have side windows tinted if you have a doctor's note

    That’s quite a lot.

Maybe that’s what I was looking at, the commercial things. I know I came across that a few times.

Also doesn’t surprise me about the dr. note and CA. I think I’ll look into that too. I miss my windshield tint

    A few things
I have not had to smog my truck yet, but after i did the intake reroute to the firewall i swung by a local smog place and asked if they would pass or fail it and they said they would fail it. Its just one shops opinion but it seems stupid. Stock air box just a different bend in the intake tube.

Lame. When it’s time to smog it are you going to try a different shop or redo everything before taking it in?

I’ll go to a different shop, but it’s an easy swap if I have to.

Surprised as hell. Currently at Auto Innovations having the alignment done and last time he had me at 3.9 | 3.9 Caster.

He took an initial snapshot and I'm at 4.2 | 4.3. That's from me not marking my SPCs when I swapped in new upper ball joints, lol. He's recommending leaving it. Toe and camber are about where I was last time.

Going to say it again, if you need an alignment and want a trustworthy shop, bring it to Orlando @ Auto Innovations in Milpitas.

Will post my final numbers when he's done.

So this is where I sat last time I was in...

    upload_2019-12-17_16-30-45.jpg

This is where it sits today. He wanted to get the camber to 0.3 but couldn't without dialing back caster further. He expects once I swap out the 881s then he'll be able to get it closer. I'm satisfied with the numbers today. Again, great shop for alignment and awesome customer service. Thanks Orlando!

I took my 4Runner there and had pretty good luck as well. Attention to detail was the thing I really liked. And that scooter....
