Have you thought about having East Coast Gear Supply build them? They ship you the built diffs. Then all you have to do is install them and return your old diffs for the core charge. Their warranty of 5 years is by far the best in the industry and their customer service is even better then their warranty.

For sure, but my main garage is my familys place in SLO. I just don't have space to do it in Monterey or the tools. Im down in SLO a few times a month for a 1-2 days hence why I was looking down there for some shops for a big project like a re-gear. Other wise your right I try to do my own stuff that I can fit in a days work.

I used a shop in Livermore, not close to SLO but what I wanted to share was that it was a 5 day turn around. So whenever you find a shop check on that.

Thanks for the heads up, but yeah I am noticing that too. Its either 3 days plus but they do the break in period or 1 day and you have to do it yourself. Different shops are also telling me different gears selections and info also why I wanted to check in to see where you've gone for reputable sites.

I’m not sure you understood @theesotericone . How it works, you buy the rear third member with the gears and front differential (and locker?) have them shipped to the family place in SLO. It takes less than a day to switch out your third member, and you might have time to do the front too (a little more complicated) or you might finish it up the second day. After your installations you ship back the diff and third member you pulled off the truck and get a refund for the cores charge. With this method, your truck is only down for the two days and you get your gears from the most reputable shop in the US.

Understandable, buy what you need from ECGS and have a reputable shop around SLO install the gears. Have you called Nelson’s Garage in Cayucos as suggested in the 805 thread.

@nudavinci64 should be able to give you an honest review of that place. :D Or suggest a shop around SLO.

I understand. The rear is easy, the front though, that takes some time and effort.

That's what I heard too. I did the UCA, front and rear suspension and although it wasn't hard still took all day vs the anticipated few hours lol. Shit just pops up you dont hear about. With my luck a 2 day each diff would be a 4 day job lol.

The front isn’t all that hard really. It’s more time consuming than the rear, but if you have ever changed a CV axle then it’s really not much more work.

When I did my regear, to get the CV axles out, I didn't have the right tools (slide hammer with a hook), and YouTube said to hit it with a hammer to vibrate it off. The driver side CV came right out, but I really had to work hard to get the passenger side out. That really messed up the threads, so I almost had to get a new CV. Luckily, the guys at WCGS offered to grind and re-thread the end of the CV axle.

Interesting. Most stock cvs have a spot for a crow bar and it pops out one the first try.
I recently bought a synthetic rope cv puller from gzila that I have great reviews about for trail repairs. Here’s the link https://www.gzila.com/products/cv-removal-tool

I posted fake news earlier. But, I was able to get rid of it. In case you saw it, I'm sorry to have gotten your hopes up.
So, I offer this little gem instead.

My CVs do have those slots, I just didn't know to look for them or put a pry bar against them.

That noose looks like it works great! I followed a review link to an Instagram video and I think I need to add it to my tool kit (probably keep a spare CV too?). Thanks for the idea.

Yah let me know my brother owns Nelson’s.

I did both of mine from ECGS and the rear Multiple times. Rear is cake. The front is just time consuming but you can do it. I didn’t have any specialty tools. A large pry bar will get the CVs out easy.

Looking for a trusted shop in the Sac area. I’m thinking about getting new lower control arms and the carrier bearing replaced. One shop made these recommendations so it’d be nice to get a second opinion also. Thanks

Hit me up if you’re looking for any of the following. Camburg UCAs, bamf LCA skids, reinforced spindles, spare axles (oem), bunch of LBJs that can be used as spares, stock upper and lower control arms (would need new bushings and I have brand new ball joints for the uppers), OEM steering rack, All pro expo leaf springs, rear bilsteins (i think one might be going bad) stock seats in good condition.
