I don't doubt that. But remember. It's the PD's job to enforce the law; the DA's job to prosecute the charges. There is no way on earth that the Alameda County DA can prosecute everything so they look at their charging documents and decide what percentage chance they have of winning vs. what else is on their plates. It's a numbers game.

As far as economic opportunity goes, over the long term, I disagree. Lots has been done to improve opportunity. Including education, job training and other employment opportunities (and incentives). There are many who took advantage of those opportunities presented to them. And there are many who choose instead to continue to complain. Breakdown of individual, of family and of community-that part I agree with.

Lest we forget, there are many good things about Oakland too.

    Damn.

We (well, at my house) are at 1.08" of rain. Most of that since 0600. And it's coming down at 1-1/2"/hr right now.

A few years ago the Alco DA announced that it didn't have the resources to prosecute everything they knew they could so they were only going to prosecute major/violent crimes, that set in motion a series of events that I think the OPD (among others), has basically said that we'll toss em in Rita for the maximum allowable time knowing full well charges would never be filed. That story I told you about, that was a complete waste of county resources. That kind of thinking doesn't create any trust between the community and the police.
As for the rest? Well if there is still 40% unemployment in those communities then it would appear to be rather obvious that not enough has (or is), being done, the underlying causes are still there. First you need to solve the 70+% dropout rate in HS's, the quality of that education needs to actually be more useful than for minimum wage jobs or manufacturing jobs that are no longer there. Higher education that is free needs to be a priority, local, living wage jobs just don't exist in the numbers that would be adequate to help the community. You live here Ian, you know how much you have to earn to survive and it's a whole lot more than minimum wage.
There are good things about Oakland????
Kidding, i know there is, I love the Mexican food down in Fruitvale, it's a rich hispanic culture. It's a very diverse city with lots of potential. It could be something if its leaders were not more concerned about their own power and had real, imaginative ideas to help the people they serve.
Time to go watch some football :)

My friend just sent me a pic of their delivery dock. That water must be about 4 feet deep. A person's head comes to the bottom of that white door. You can tell the incline by the angle of that curb on the right.

I'm in Santa Rosa, and there's a lot of cartel/drug shootings up here. On my street there have been multiple shootings, and raids from ICE, DEA, etc. One guy had his head blown off at point blank, and another one just outside a heavily populated restaurant. About a month and a half ago it sounded like a shotgun blast between my house and my granny unit and I swept the yard with xd40 with viridian c5l and a huge 3000lm LED spot. I need to move out to the woods... its ridiculous.

The city has a lot of different cultures, a vibrant waterfront and a couple of sports teams. They have the potential.

Unemployment in Oakland has hovered around 20% and is near 13% now (compared to around 10% statewide). The dropout rate is around 27% compared to 14% for the state as a whole. As far as education, with "no child", the level of instruction should be the same and they get the same dollar per student. Where it starts falling apart is when kids don't show up to school-and that's on the parents and kids. If they don't show up, the city doesn't get money from the state and the kids fall farther and farther behind

I think it's a tough call about the enforcement vs. prosecution. If you ignore the little shit to focus on the big shit, eventually, the little shit becomes big. idk how I feel about the prosecutors office for their attitude. On the one hand, maybe a short stint in county is enough to convince some of the error in their ways-if so, everyone wins-on the other hand, it's a shitty way because due process comes at such a high cost-but you walk away with nothing to speak of on your record.

I think we both agree that the politicians aren't making any of this easier for the people of Oakland.

There's usually a sump pump under there. I wonder if it just can't keep up? Damn, that's a lot of water!

The parking lot at my work had some deep and large puddles. I may have maybe mobbed through it for fun after I got off work.

I just took a loop through rosevile again, most of the waters receeded except for some reason water all of a sudden appeared deep at the intersection of watt and baseline. Probably 2 feet. Some kid in a Saab apparently 'barreled' through it, even though he denied it, hydrolocked his shit just at the end of the puddle. I stopped and offered him a tug out of the water at least, he said sure. I waited for them to get out of the vehicle and never did. Asked him again, told him I wasn't hooking onto their car, that they would do it but he never got out of his seat. So I drove through the puddle and waved as I drove off.

I think he was just too pissed off at himself for doing it in the first place. He was crankin his engine, I told him not to or he'd do more damage. At least he stopped. He didn't understand why Honda Civics were driving right past him in the puddle LMFAO. Oh well, live and learn. I've been there before too. I managed to get my truck (old ranger) started at the time though. I didn't know any better but 10 minutes of cranking and she eventually fired.

Rained all morning in North Lake. Started to snow around 10am. I got on the mountain (Nothstar) around 11am. Snowed all day and REALLY started to snow at 2pm.
    Heavy heavy heavy
Sierra cement, but had fresh tracks all afternoon. They are calling for 15"-24" tonight up top.
In Truckee having a beer right now. Hopefully I'll report tomorrow with knee deep tracks

I'm so excited the rain changed to snow even if it's sticky. I was planning to go up Thurs night to Sat afternoon but I just got subpoenaed for court for my work on Friday afternoon, which is my day off.
