Truck has 6200km on it, had an oil change at 2000km after break in. Just checked the oil, still has some metal filings?

Would this be left over from first change that might not have come out or should this be a concern?
Ignore black flakes on bottom right, thats just dirt from the latch when I opened the hood that I wiped on the same shoptowel.

Was considering doing another oil change at 8000km then 16 000km (like manual says) then every 10k from there on out (pending oil test)

The metal filings were only on the bottom of the dipstick after checking oil. was not continuous through all the oil on the stick.

If you are concerned about debris in oil, you should be cutting open the filter.

2000km is still early in the break-in cycle. I wouldn't worry too much about seeing filings just yet.

It cracks me up when people do that with a hacksaw / grinder or other tool that creates filings.

To the OP, it's perfectly normal.

We used to cut traditional canister oil filters open with a pipe cutter. The type that you cinch down and roll around the pipe. Creates no shavings. But these have the the cartridge style that I cut open with a pair of tin snips to check out. On my third filter and one oil change @ 10k.

Perfectly normal @Joe23! Mine had the same when I did a filter only swap at 2500 miles. Second filter had very minimal and third one is in it now.

Wonder why there's no magnet on the drain plug like there is for the MT and front and rear diffs.

Probably less ferrous metal to metal contact in the engine, you could always stick a magnet on the oil pan l suppose, they also make filter magnets but those would not work on our trucks.

If you're worried about it, or want to learn about your motor, send a sample of your oil to Blackstone and have them test your oil. They'll give you a very detailed breakdown of what's in your oil vs what's normal, and usually they'll write you a note with their diagnosis. Definitely worth the money if you're at all interested.

I think I read that we can sub a drain plug from say a Camrey that has a magnet.

I added a magnetic plug from Goldplug. The magnet is freaking strong as hell.
