Does anyone have a 3rd gen that operates fine? I have a new Mexican made TRD Sport and I think it’s fine. Shifting is smooth and shifts pretty much when I expect it should. The only real complaint transmission wise it it seems to hold 4th gear to long in CC. Other then that it seems fine. All I read here is how all the transmissions totally suck and need the update.

I go in for the 5000mi soon and really think I shouldn’t bring up the update because it seems fine. I don’t want to make what seems to be a normally (or expected) operating 6 speed transmission into something not operating correctly. So anyone else on this forum have a Taco they think is fine and does not need the update.

Mine is a little bit funky but not near bad enough to do anything about it. It's also the first double o/d vehicle I have owned so I'm sure that's part of it.

2018 TRD Sport with Texas vin here. Absolutely none of the problems mentioned on TW. I have no doubt there are a lot of funky ones out there. Going in for the 5000 mile service in a couple weeks. No way am I going to request a TSB. I hope those that do get an improvement. Maybe I’m just lucky.

My pro is the best driving truck I’ve ever owned. I have zero of the issues mentioned on here.

A lot of the trans quirks depend on where you drive. If its flat, of your on a trip decreasing in elevation, it seems fine and mileage is great in D. If you must climb, the eco oriented tune rears its ugly head. My daily drive is slightly downhill in the AM and back up to home in the PM. Two distinctly different experiences all else being equal with the truck in D mode. I've been experimenting for a couple weeks now with S mode and ECT PWR. ECT PWR mode is the trucks real normal mode. Its snappy, shifts at appropriate speeds and RPM, and feels great driven like this. What I'm finding is AM mileage is about 1 mpg less than in D, or about 20.5 to 21, because it can cope with the ultra high overall gear ratio and not downshift much. But, PM milage is the same to .5mpg better, because the truck is not shifting so much and momentum is maintained better on even small hills. The drivetrain doesn't work anywhere near as hard. The overall experience is much better on both trips. I look at this truck more like some other new cars and SUVs with a normal (D), and an eco mode, rather than other trucks like my Tundra with a tow/haul mode.
