I found it using the buttons on the left of the steering wheel . I’m not sure what buttons I pressed, it was the right or left arrow button and then the up and down and it started giving me all kinds of different options. Unless it has something to do with the updated package I have. :notsure:

I’m getting 25 MPG — this is over 250 miles. And the truck said 21. Looks like my truck is pessimistic and really getting way more. Will keep a tab on it to see if this is a fluke. IMG_5196.jpg

Interesting. That’s not what I would have thought would happen given my (admittedly anecdotal) experience with those things. And certainly not by 20-ish percent!

I wonder if there’s a correction factor kind of thing buried in a secret settings menu or something that you can use to fudge it closer to reality.

It can’t be right. I will assume that I fucked something up on this test. I’m running another test now.

It might be. My Subaru was optimistic by 15 or 20% before I adjusted the fudge-factor.

Either way, not a bad idea to hand calculate it for a while to see. It’d be awesome if you were getting 25, though. Means I’ve got a snowball’s chance of getting that once I get my TRD Sport. As long as my wife isn’t driving. She drives with the thunder. When she gets 27 in her Subaru, I get 33…

I actually feel like Tacoma mpg gauges are pretty accurate.

I drive like TacoRancher and have the same truck and am enjoying the ‘thrill’ of trying to keep the throttle feathered lightly enough to avoid the engine kicking on. Getting used to where the threshold is the last few days for throttle input, speed, gauge position etc.

Taco Rancher, how many miles are you at now? Curious if you have noticed much change. I’m only at 1000 so far, I’ve only had the truck a few days.

Today I got 18.9mpg (12.5L/100km) on hilly gravel roads, with many turns at grid road intersections, stopping every few miles to inspect stuff for work, over a 150 mile (240km) trip. (Calculated using mileage and fuel filled). And while also hauling my work gear and an ATV in the box; in the heaviest trailhunter trim, so I’m sure better is achievable. Truck was reporting slightly worse value for fuel economy by about 15%

So I ended up at 16.4mpg in ECO mode. Filled up today and will go back to normal to see how that compares, and then the next tank in sport LOL.
I'll note, I did try to practice using hybrid mode a bit more whilst under ECO mode. I understand what you mean with manipulating the throttle to remain hybrid - it's a bit tricky.

I did a full tank in city driving and it was a ton of stop start and rushing around - just under 18mpg — will keep tabs

I’m definitely getting reasonable mileage. Driving when not trying to get good fuel economy (still hauling a quad) I’m getting 15l/100km or 15mpg, but i got 11.3L/100km or ~21mpg the other day still driving a mix of highway and gravel with mixed small hills (and with 500lb ATV). I can keep it above the 20mpg mark If i drive like a grandma.
I sure wish the electric motor didn’t back off quite so early sometimes. It would be nice if we could set it to be a bit more active.

Can you do anything to make eco mode ‘more’ eco? The truck has so much power in eco mode I wont be let down by that

The first time in recorded human history that a Tacoma driver said his truck had too much power!

I totally agree that the battery should be used a little bit more. I think that Toyota is just trying to preserve the battery and the charge - so what ends up happening is sometimes in traffic or when I’m launching off of from a stop, I go really slow to hold it in battery and it pisses off my entire family.

ALSO - I notice at random times it uses bettery way more from a start and it’s super smooth combined with engine power but it’s not consistent ! It goes all the way to peak battery during acceleration - it’s prob just how I throttle.. but back to the main point - it should def let you linger in battery longer

in eco mode im sure you still have the same amount of beans as in full beans sport mode. just a slower response. from what i understand in owners manual. i feel like if they cut the horse power or torque back in any certain mode people might not like that as much if they decide they need it at any given time.

also i notice as long as you keep throttle below about 50% the hybrid doesnt seem to assist as much once your moving. say your merging to on ramp. so your already going 30mph. give it more than half throttle and it seems to roll on bunch of hyrbid then boost to get ya goinnnnn!

Naw, it's the second time. In a towing post, I remarked that I tried tow/haul mode while towing my 1400-pound camper, and I had too much power.

Yeah... crazy. I'm glad I didn't by a hybrid for the extra torque.

Nice! I love my hybrid. I’m a torque addict. I would take even more if it was offered. I came from a vehicle with a V8 392 lb feet and I never felt it was too much. The V8 torque “felt” better than the 465 on the Tacoma for some reason (probably because it sounded better, car was lighter, and power delivery was more linear) but both are great.

More important than torque - how was your transmission temps - also does tow mode hold in gear longer kind of like the old ECT?

Tranny temps were fine. It just acts like it has a lot more power. I don't know how it's done, probably a combination of factors. I never found much use for ECT mode in my 2016.

Interesting. Maybe more turbo boost? I used the ECT a lot just for better shift points.
