It has to be. I'm sure the shift points changed too. I only ran it for five miles or so and decided it was too zippy.

Haha.. man isn’t it an outstanding difference though? I’m not saying it’s too much, but I’m saying I’d be happy even if it had less. I only drove a gas job before buying the hybrid and I was satisfied that It was already good, I figured it was a safe bet… the hybrid drives really nice and yeah, all sorts of power.

Hahaha… I also take off slow enough to piss off everyone if there are people around… thankfully it’s pretty quiet out this way. Your right, its not totally consistent, and I can’t quite put a finger on it yet. It seems like yeah, it ‘saves’ power for when it thinks it might need it… I wish (or wonder?) if it could be possible to add some sort of gyro inputs to the hybrid delivery calculation/decision, such that it knows when you are going up a hill vs on flat ground vs decline, to help decide when to use or not to use the motor.

Gmtech is probably right, same amount of power just less responsive. And yeah, depending on how much juice you give, it may not even use the electric motor. I’ve been trying something lately where I take off slowly in electric only, and then once the engine insists on kicking on, I jam it such that I am utilizing the full torque from the electric motor, getting up closer to speed quickly. As soon as it suggests the electric motor is backing off (once the turbo has spooled), I back off on the throttle, and just slowly finish getting to the speed I need. I figure I’m utilizing more electric torque to get moving and minimizing the fuel used since this only lasts a couple seconds of extra fuel use (but also full electric contribution) whereas if I just accelerate slowly with the engine, it burns fuel the entire time with no contribution from the motor.

Does it seem like the throttle pedal is more sensitive to you? (Rather… quite sensitive, not so much ‘more’) I travel a lot of bumpy roads and try to keep my foot quite steady, but the smallest of bumps can trigger ‘surging’ in the throttle demand, often kicking the engine on when on motor only. Seems like that threshold on the ‘MAX’ gauge is about 33-40%, maybe? But I find that if im at ~25% and get a little bump, even without passing the magic line, it might think I’m asking for too much and bumps on the engine

I agree. Tip in throttle too sensitive. My brain still hasn't made the adjustment.

IMG_5242.jpg Ok guys - I drove in a mix of normal and eco mode for 78.1 miles; truck reported 20MGP, which means I used 3.905 gallons in theory. I just filled up and it was almost dead on accurate at 3.939. See below. Will continue to accrue data.
    IMG_5241.jpg

note: I think I reset the trip meter about 0.5 miles in, which would account for it being a tiny bit off, so in this run it seems super accurate - What I am noticing is that when I fuck around and spin wheels or drive over 80, it doesn’t quite register how much gas is being used and it gets less accurate. If I drive more normally it seems more accurate. But I’ll keep gathering data.

Somehow I’m crushing it in eco. 265 miles with over 1/4 tank left. Will report final numbers but it will be impressive. Maybe because engine is broken in fully at 2,400 miles.

because hybrids can be silent when the engine is off, it just means the truck is on and ready to drive

So I switched to Falken AT4W E load 275/70/18s and my gas mileage shit the bed. About 17 it seems, but not enough data to confirm. But I am running 31 PSI because they are kinda hard tires. I may up the PSI to improve it.

You feel the 89 gets you better mileage or it's just your standard fill?

All this tank is giving me hybrid envy...

I’m not sure. I’m going to refill with regular today to test it. Also after putting bigger tires my mileage is definitely down. Need more data to report it reliably.

    That's about $375 a year more in fuel alone driving 12k miles/yr.

No definitely did not lose that much. I had some bad data. It’s much higher now. Will report out later.

Except it’s not that bad at all. My PSI was too low and I was driving up hills. It’s much better now. Will report later with good data.

I’m using Sport mode the next few tanks full. Getting ready to hit 2000 miles. Liking it so far.
