Don't know. Don't have the truck anymore. All I've read is that from 01-04, the Scanguage can read trans temp, but not earlier then that. On my 99 Prerunner with the A340E, it read trans temp. From what I've read, early models used a temp switch and not a temp sensor.

I have 2020 Tacoma off road and 2300 miles. My scan gauge reads about 189-198 just normal driving and when I was towing it went up to 222 then dropped thankfully.

    this seems high?

I scheduled an apt to check things and wondering if while there I should add a trans cooler? Or do these come with something? I have seen others add an outside trans temp cooler.

What is the display name on the scan gauge for the trans temp? I’m unsure which it is, seen one that I think was something like ‘iaT’ maybe?? It gave a reading that seemed like it could be it...

Hey did you add a cooler? I’m seeing 208 going uphill then it drops down. I have a lot of extra weight. I think I’m add a cooler.

This has been a very helpful thread. Just replaced my old A340F in my 2004 Double Cab (torque converter was whining). Was a bit dismayed that it still runs up to 230 degrees in city driving in the Phoenix, AZ summers. That being said, I am a hair undergeared for 33's and I am running an ARB bumper that restricts a bit of air flow to the stock trans cooler. Adding an auxiliary cooler soon!

I just bought a new Scangauge 2. I have 2004 Tacoma prerunner 2.7 liter with AT. I cannot figure how to program this thing to read tranny temp(I am 83 yrs old! That may be the problem) I realize you gotta get into X gauge mode then I’m lost. Any suggestions? Thanks to all

Yes a code needs to be added by entering it character by character in the X gauge mode.

Scangauge should be willing to walk you through it but if not, have you checked their website for a list of codes? I think that’s where I found mine for trans temps. I’ll check back and do some digging if you aren’t successful soon.

OP: I found this on the Scangauge website. I am attaching two screenshots for you. @Tmar04

For your 2004 you might want to try the code(s) paired with the CANSF protocol first and then try ISO after only if needed. I am on ISO but I have a 2001.

I’d try in order from top to bottom. The first complete line of numbers and code might do the trick.

Finally called Scangauge and got proper codes. After about 4 tries. I got them entered and works like a charm. Radiator coolant 190f and AT temp 150. That’s with an auxiliary cooler in front of ac condenser and radiator. Now to figure out a place to place the thing. Thanks for the help. Have a good one. Terry in hot and humid so Georgia!

I taped mine to top of the steering column.

Somewhere on the forum I found a mounting bracket to move it where my ashtray was I believe. It’s been so long since I had my Taco I can’t remember now.
