haha in all honesty, I wouldn't mind a drop in size, screw how it looks. I can feel the difference in stock to lifted power difference and the power steering fuckery.

Im about 90% sure it will still go to the bump on a hard hit with the shocks. From my understanding, the coils give it more lift but are designed to still give the truck full amount of travel (bump to full extension). Im sure we could find some sort of write up or technical explanation, but i seriously doubt the shocks keep it from hitting the bump. Im positive I had hit my bumps a few times, I have Donahoes, old icons set at a little less than 2'' of lift.

Key part. Im just afraid that wouldnt work on a really hard hit, like it hitting the bumpstops, and if it wasnt fully clearanced, then the tire would tear shit up on the way to the bump.

They do not take away flexibility if you trim properly, if not, then yes they do or they will self clearance on a hard hit.

I see where you are coming from, but I mean, the bigger the better right? Everyone runs bigger tires for a reason right? If you wheel hard and get in crazy situations, you will see the benefits, if not, then you probably dont need bigger tires for the lack of power, worse gas mileage, etc...

This was essentially what I had gathered from the super exhaustive discussion on this:

265 > 285 for offroading, for exactly the reasons you state. You can fully stuff and flex them all the way.

285's look cooler. (Hey, I'll admit it.) and they _do_ provide slightly more contact and clearance, but we're talking 20mm and 1/2"...

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
^^Exactly the reason why if I want a true offroading tire, I'd rather have a 12.5

If the IFS on our trucks was a macpherson style, then yes, the more you compress the suspension, the more opportunities your wheel will hit at different places. However, our trucks have the ever so wonderful UCA's to pair with the LCA's so technically, any rubbing you would see past partial flex, would be due to the vehicle shape within the wheel well. So in other words, Where you rub low, you will rub high. Just know where you trimmed and inspect any probable trouble spots directly above that area.

so in other words jim what you are telling me is that you and i are just going to sit back quietly with our 265 duratracs and watch everyone else squabble over this to see if the go with us or convert to the darkside...... or wait are we the darkside?

Id never buy duratracs. There's no way I would pay that much for an AT. Jim believes me now.

speaking of tires i know ill prob catch crap for saying it but the walmart duratracs (wrangler authority) are on sale and i have a pretty reliable source that says they may soon be put on clearance for a new line to come out but right now they are 140 a tire for load c 265/75r16 or similar. just thought you might wanna know already mentioned it to brian. dont know how you feel about these tires but they are very similar to the duratracs just not as aggressive side biters and slightly diff center tread arrangement, plus they arent winter rated. i know that i have the guy watching for me to give me a call if they drop lower or go on a silent clearance like they normally do.

but you really arent gettin an AT more like a MT with a tread warranty. IMO at least.

I guess. But they are just so expensive. If what you say is true about the walmart tires, that may not be a bad deal.

Relax on the duratrac hate. Justin and I both got ours awhile back. I wouldn't buy them now that they're so much more expensive, that's for sure.

If I could get 5 for $847 shipped again, though, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat...

Not hating at all man. I wanted them real bad when I first started looking and when I finally got the money, they had shot up in price. If they hadn't gone up in price, I'd be sporting them too. I only rock the MT's cause I got them used for cheap. Same reason I'm rocking 18's. Neither my first choice.

Why is everyone so sensitive today...I mean c'mon, storm kept me up too. E-Sarcasm seal of approval!
