Do you know if the truck has a front LSD? (Limited Slip Differential?) Many after market HD LSD's make popping noises due to the fact that they are normally locked except when turning.. So if has always done it since you've owned the truck someone might have put in a different diff. If not then I'm not too sure...

If it was a wheel bearing, or CV joint then you would have that sound regardless of the fact that it is in 4wd...

You don't have to wheel if you don't feel comfortable.. Just come along for the ride!

I've seen videos of you drive, between you and David, I think one of you will make it. "MOAR SKINNY PEDAL" Thought you had that fixed by now.

I would be hard pressed to make a guess, but possible CV. Might put it up on stands and listen hand rotating free and engaged with the diff. Then possible start it up and let the driveshaft spin it and see where it is coming from. Aside from that, we will have an ASE qualified mechanic here!

Looks like SargeSlapnuts is doing a 4x4 conversion on his truck starting Thursday and won't be able to make it.

Dromlace and a friend are going to try to ride up. He may contact Justin to hook up with the Birmingham convoy.

Damn, seeing all these guys from Birmingham, you all will have enough people to start putting together your own meets. That really sucks, cause that means I will have to drive down there....hehe

Anyone else who is interested that doesn't have my contact information, send me a pm or post up and I will get you directions and a phone number.

Yes, you will have an ASE master tech there. As for the noise, several of the guys have probably got you on the right track. Your front drive axles don't always turn in 4WD, but it does depend on the truck. do you have manual or automatic hubs? I have seen a lot of hubs click because they are not engaging fully. Is it a higher tone click, like a ratchet working, or a deeper one like a hammer tapping on your frame? A higher tone one would lean towards a hub engagement problem, where a lower tone would be more inclined to be a CV axle, or limited slip. If you suspect the limited slip, then I would suggest changing out your front diff fluid and adding a LSD additive. I might have some spare. I will look and bring with for those who may need. I will also be bringing some tools and my limited recovery tools.
I am not 100% familiar with Toyota's RPO codes or I would be able to find out. If you PM or post your full VIN I can look it up and get you more information.

I will bring my electrical system tool set and all my mini-parts for installs similar to that one if you would like.

Also, I wanted to ask if anyone has any 1st gen parts (aftermarket, old lift parts, etc...) that they would be willing to part with? I have an extended cab LX model. Pic uploaded soon.

Just checking in. Seen the updated ride spot. Lol, that place is deep. Trust me we use duck hunt back in the swamps. My buddy 250 got stuck back there. We always used Atv since then and just went around the hole he got stuck in. The guy that lives beside it that does the athletic field dirt is a ass. Pulled a gun on us for riding back there. Said we was trespassing on his property. We wasn't though.

Sounds good, Ill be putting my skidplate back on. Plan on going pretty hard :D

We'll check it out at the meet.

Sounds good. I re-geared the rear but not the front yet. Saving up for putting a locker and 4:88s in the front.

You think I might could get a little help changing a Power Steering pump? Mine is whining really bad. I dont really know how to do it but with a little help im sure it wouldnt be to hard.

Is this thing going on this weekend???? What time do yall guesstimate the wheeling will start?

parker, hardest part is pulling the pulley off the old pump and putting it on the new one. just like changing an alternator other than that. except instead of electrical connections you have a pressure and return hose. need to rent a puller if you plan to do it.

yep. they say it is better to have those special wrenches for the lines too... cant rem what they are called for some reason right now but they look like a box end wrench that has a small piece cut out of it, but anyway ive never used them to do it. they just protect the fittings from getting rounded off from a wrench slip.

Hah, only reason I know is that my uncle gave me his tools, and there were some in there. I had to ask him what the heck they were.

Other tool obscura... crow's foot wrenches. Those things are weird.

Beginning to think I am going to have to load my whole shop into my truck. I will see what we can do. No promises, but I do have a universal puller for PS pump pulleys. It SHOULD work. We can look and see before any removal takes place.
