    Hi Paul,
Welcome to the best damn Tacoma forum on the interwebs! :hattip:

Have you checked new prices in your area? From more than one place? When I was researching I received quotes from five. Two were ridiculous, the other three were closer in price. What's weird is how each one was offering different discounts on options. So that needed to be taken into account. I requested they just give me the total installed/out the door price.

The best deal, driving a couple hours from a reputable place, for an ARE MX (this is the one that's about 5" higher than the cab for the entire length of the cap), Long Bed, 3rd Gen, Color Matched, Grey Carpeted interior, Windoors on both sides w/sliding windows & screens, Front Sliding Tilt-in Removable window, Interior Dome Light, Factory Installed Roof Rack Rails (no rack).

    Total $2,400.

If you just need a basic cap I would check around. The one you posted doesn't have a carpeted interior. Not a deal breaker but if you want it add the cost. Some guys that sleep in the bed would prefer this because then they can add dynomat or some other type of material to help insulate it. Lighting too, that can be added and for about the same cost.

The one thing you don't get with a used cap is a warranty. That didn't stop me. Mine was $800. It's not color matched, but I'm going to bed line it black for $50. It doesn't have windoors. Meh, I would like to have them but can live without them. Everything else is just like the description above. The added height is worth any price. It's definitely a love it or hate it look but on a short bed (what I have now) it makes perfect sense. Being able to sit up on a bucket or on a bed platform is key. Most guys that have a cab height cap complain about it being uncomfortably cramped for sleeping, even without a raised platform.

It all depends how you intend to use it.

But above all else, if you can, be patient unless you find one that checks all your boxes.

Glad to be a part of this with my new truck
Thanks for all the valuable information! After doing some investigating you are dead on… I’m going to wait for one that has all the features that I want especially if I’m gonna be putting out that kind of money. Definitely going to be using it for camping so may investigate the higher one as you recommended. Have a great day all!

You're welcome Paul. It's a major investment for sure. Definitely ask others what they use theirs for but more importantly, what they don't like about it or wish they had done differently. Then you can learn from others mistakes for free. The used 3rd Gen caps are going to be more money of course because their newer obviously.

In my case, in the time I've been on here, none has checked all my boxes, and only two have come close. Each was way too far away though.

Another member said he got a response from the seller who said something to the effect of “not for a Tacoma, but fits well”

Right? I tried contacting him through email and text but never heard back. Was going to make the trip from Maine if it hadn’t sold.
