He was seling on CL for $300
I offered $225.
He countered with $240.
I agreed.
He agreed.
We both agreed that I'll pay in cash and pick up this Monday.
He sold it yesterday to someone else.

He made the counter. If he said no and stayed firm at $300, I would've still bought it.

It's craigslist and making offers and counter-offers is always part of the process.

The moment we agreed on price and pick up time/location, it should've been a done deal. Kinda like a long distance "handshake" in my opinion.

 

True but cash in hand right now is better than waiting on people to possibly come buy what you're selling only to not show up and not let you know. I buy, sell and trade stuff on CL alot. I've found the more time you give someone to come get something, the more likely they will change their mind.

I'm a man of my word though so if someone wants to buy what I'm selling and needs time to come get it than I'll agree if they are serious and won't sell it out from under them.

 

The guy I bought my cap off of in upstate NY I emailed him on a Tuesday and he held on to it till Sunday. He told me when I got there that he had got multiple emails from other people. But like you said I'm also man of my word. I offered him 100$ less then he was asking and he took it. So happy seller happy buyer

I feel your pain. I had that happen but with a TRUCK! It was about 90 minutes away from me. We did a little bargaining and agreed on a price. I clearly stated that I was going to buy it. I took off work the next day and arranged for someone to ride down with me - they also took off work. The next day, I call the guy to get his address, and he said he had sold it. I politely but firmly told him how much of a dick move it was. I totally understand where he was coming from, but if that's what you're going to do, if you're going to continue to take offers, you should make it clear to your buyer. It cost my buddy and I both a vacation day.

Nah would be a pain in the ass to tie it down with my bakflip tonneau cover. Easier to tie it down on the trailer!
