Yeah, I'm not sure how that works. Whiteface and Gore both have hiking trails that go through the ski area. I guess they have the authority to close those as they want.

I think the state is all about liability and doing whatever they can to minimize that.

The complication at Whiteface is that the mid station lodge burned down in November, and they started working on rebuilding it a couple of weeks ago. Due to the way the mountain is laid out, the two routes that make sense for skinning converge at the construction site, and I think one of those routes is also being used to get equipment and supplies in and out. I'm sure they want to keep the public out of that area.

Any body got any good state forest road suggestions for a not too technical social distance drive near Albany?

If they don’t, my kids will learn how to earn their turns. I’m sure trails will still be mowed. I’d actually enjoy that for a season assuming we can leave our homes.

Spring skiing at its finest. It's a bit hard in the morning but as soon as the sun hits it it softens up and turns to great spring corn snow and by 2pm it's pretty sticky. Fortunate to have a 10 month ski season although August and September are bottom of the barrel conditions it's still getting turns in.

Yes you could say I'm into skiing lol and summer skiing here is great too, you get to meet alot of pro snowboarders and skiers here and the mens and women's Olympic ski teams are practicing all summer on the Palmer glacier. Summers are actually quite busy on the Glacier as it's the only place open in the lower 48. If you ever come out west and want to ride shoot me a message and I'll show you around the local gems of the NW. Mt Hoot, Mt Batchelor, Mt Baker, and Whites Pass are all great ski areas without the corporate bullshit that kills most resorts.

Guess I thought this was an east coast ski thread... Had wedding plans in Portland for August (now canceled) when I asked my friend if hood would be open he said definitely not. Looks to me like the snow might last.. is there ever skiing there in August?
