What camp sites did you camp at? I am trying to find out how long it took people to travel from camp site to camp site to get an idea of how long it will take me to travel to each site.

Also would like to know how many people we can get to camp at each site... which site was this one??

I will be doing a lot of research on Big Bend in the next month. haha. But i am the type of person that likes to know what the plan is, but a good traveler knows that plans often change!

With the back country sites I listed, expect to spend 30 minutes to an hour driving until you hit a Ranger Station.

FWIW, there is a coin operated shower on the south end of the park at the Rio Grande Village visitor center.

This interests me... but not sure if I would have the time off really...

Would I need to take off Wed, Thurs, Fri, Mon off work or what?

I have to make sure I have enough PTO for two days for Jambo then like four days for Red Clay Rally and keep saving up for other days off I want.

I am taking off Thurs & Friday. I plan to head out super early, like 4-5am, that should put me at the park around 2-3pm. Thursday will be a short trip in the park because of the drive to get there, and to allow others to show up. Friday morning will begin the longer drives, Sunday i hope to be a quick trip to get back to the paved roads so that i can start the drive home. I will probably take off the following monday to recharge.
Thanks man, and estimated travel times between them would help also!

Ok, I need to see how much PTO I will have and exactly how far of a drive it would be, may benefit me to leave Wed and drive somewhere and camp overnight and then make the journey... but really need to see about PTO with everything else already on the schedule.

Just some things I know I can bring right off hand.

      • food
        • I would like to do at least one cook for each meal.
        • Breakfast: simple scrambled eggs w/ some bacon and some type of bread.
        • Lunch: I figure we'll be on the trials most of the day and sandwiches would work well. Maybe just bring the stuff and we can all build one during a lunch break.
        • Dinner: I wanted to bring some stuff for fajitas. Some chicken and steak with some grilled peppers and onions. Along with some side stuff. Nothing fancy but who doesn't like fajitas.

        • I'm no chef, but I will do my best to make it tasty.
    • tent -- Mine can sleep two comfortably more than that is a squeeze.
    • Med kit -- Small kit. Cant do surgery but should be able to bandage up most wounds.
    • camp chairs -- I have one camp chair. I can swing two if we look like we're short.
    • water -- I'll bring enough water for a few people for the 4 days. I figure we'll all bring some amount, but I'll have plenty if someone runs short.
    • beer/alcohol (cans only for beer) -- Umm....yes sir. Count me in for at least a case of good 'ol shiner. Probably bring some whiskey also for the late night evenings.
    • trash bags -- I'll bring a roll of them. I would think it should be good for the whole gang.
    • Toilet Paper!!!! -- I'll bring a couple of rolls.

@thedrewsifer So it looks like there are a few scenic points on the west side of the park, have you been over there at all?

@SuperBad you said that you went all along the river... how long did it take you?

I've got a small propane grill that works off the little green Coleman bottles and a single burner stove that uses the same bottles. I'll bring at least 2-3 bottles but should be more than needed. I have 2 large camp chairs and a smaller one (adult size, no armrests). I'll be in my bed tent. I was going to bring 2 cases of water. I don't drink a lot but will bring some beer with me. Trash bags and toilet paper is easy. I sure hope I wouldn't need more than a roll for a couple days in the wild. If I do, I've got bigger problems. Speaking of which...https://www.nps.gov/rigr/planyourvisit/humanwaste.htm I wonder if it's easy to get to a bathroom or if we need to think about bringing our own.
We also need to consider communications with the group. I've recently installed a CB but also have a pair of 2 way radios.
Last thing, my dad is going to come out but he has 2wd S10. Not sure how difficult the trails might be and if he'll be able to take his truck everywhere we go. He has all his own setup and can park if we do any of the harder stuff. Worst case he's behind me and I drag him through it.
