I'm down for it. I guess it just adds to the drive time? Anything else?

I'm interested in the State Park but not sure if I'd have enough time. I plan to head home Sunday just after dawn. Could we hit up the highlights of the National Park with enough time to spare? I would think the State Park may be a day or more of exploring in itself.

What i was thinking is maybe we can start in the Ranch and end at the west side of the National Park.... If not then probably will start on the west side of the Park and go along the Rio Grand to the East side. We will stop half way along the river to camp one night.

So what i am thinking is...

1st night: camp at Terlingua or Cottonwood camp site

2nd night: camp at Loop Camp #1 or #2 / Woodsons

3rd night: Camp at La clocha/ Gravel Pit/ Rio Grand Village/ or Candelila

I will also google each of these and post pics in a bit.

I will also update the gear list with what people said they have. @ETXTacoma is a maybe right now so his gear will have a star* indicating a maybe and need a back up option.

As long as you know where you are going... then I doubt there will be much issue!

I will hopefully know pretty soon if I will be able to or not.

Going to sit down this weekend and plan out trips and time off and such.

I'm down for the state park, its much more remote and quite a bit more rugged.

I won't have my sliders by this trip. Skids will be on though. Does the state park require sliders or is it marginally more difficult than the NP?

nah sliders aren't required by any means, just have to spend a bit more time picking lines. We will all be there to spot you no worries. The SP is just marginally more difficult. It is just less maintained than the NP.

Found this on the state park website. page three has some recommendations for the state park. If we do the SP, we just need to be sure everyone is prepared.

    http://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_bk_p4501_0152k.pdf

Biggest things I see that the National Park has covered is gas & water. Tools and such should be required no matter what.

In that case im down with the SP. I would like to see it all but realize we only have some much time. I say lets hit the high points of what we can. I have most of the easy/cheap stuff like water, shovel, gps, first aid etc. I only have the single spare and didnt really plan on purchasing a second. I can buy some jerry cans, but im not sure what amount would be needed yet.

You should be fine. I have been watching a couple videos on youtube that people have posted. The roads dont look all that bad at all!

With the amount of tacomas we will have out there im sure you can borrow a spare if needed. We are all in the DFW area after all...

Agreed, i just didn't want to assume that. If everybody is down for sharing gear, that would make sure we're all covered.

I don't know about basing BBNP trails on YouTube. When it rains out the roads easily wash out and you might need to winch some rocks out of the way. I hope your ok with loosing some of your clear coat, the mesquite and huisache grow quite fast.

Last time I stayed at LaClocha/ Rio Grande area in he park my ex had a panic attack at 2 am when we heard people canoeing the river speaking Spanish. Our tent was about 40 yards from the border!!! And the camp site had lots of sardine cans, didn't want to sare her so I disregarded that until the 2 am commute.

So if immigration in proscess scares y'all....you might want to consider camping elsewhere. My ex wanted to leave, we packed up and drove to the private campground on black gap road. Good times.

On the other hand in that area there's a hot spring and Boqillas canyon. Boqullas formation is the equivalent to the Eagleford Shale, and lots of fossils above that and below and Indian artifacts in that area too.

Haha if i heard some Spanish on the water at 2 am i would freak out too! I wouldnt be able to find my pistol fast enough! But with a crowd hopefully we can avoid any run ins. Safety in numbers!

Not too worried about the clear coat, it is familiar with scratches already! Haha.
