To relieve some stress, I decided to take the rest of the day off and take the boat out! Turned out to be a nice day!

The only thing that could be better about the new boat is if the motor ran on water!

 Not its running perfecty. It sucks the gas down. I can go thru $100+ in gas in one day on the river. I already ordered my h20 conversion kit off the late night TV a couple of weeks ago. Cant wait to put that sucker in. I'm just going to cut a hole in the bottom of the boat, then the gas tank should always be filled!

I went out with my neighbores on there boat today. Here are the pictures going thru the locks. We went from Cincinnati to Ripley and back.

Ha! I am good to go for Saturday. How bad do you think it will be down there with all this great weather we have been having?

It will most likely be dry and HOT! I'll probably end up going swimming to cool off.

On another note, if there is enough interest I am going to try and get a TW boat outing planned. Not sure if there would be enough interest or not. If anyone is interested we would probably go on a Saturday or Sunday. We would go out on the Ohio river around 12ish, maybe stop at a bar/grill and get some lunch and then do whatever. We can ski, tube, and wakeboard. My boat seats 9 including myself. Let me know if anyone is interested and Ill try and put some dates together.

Here is the most up to date listing of dates for a meet down at my farm. If people would want to go boating instead of going to my farm, that could be arranged if enought people wanted to go.

From the looks of this it seems July 10/11th would be the best meet dates. I think more people will join once the date gets closer.

you've got the whole thing to yourself! throw out a pole! it's been a long time since i've been in one of those big locks. we have similar ones on our river, 'cept they are a LOT smaller....and they are still hand operated. they were built in 1849 and are a testament to 18th centruy engineering, as they are still in use today. it gets hot sitiing there waiting for the water to rise, eh? :)

^ Yes it was really hot waiting there yesterday. That and the horseflies were horrible. I've never seen so many in my entire life. The whole boat was covered.

I used to live not to far from the Markland dam and I thought it looked funny to see a small boat go through the locks.

i do see a small shady spot on the right :) how long did it take them to get you to the upper pool? our locks vary, depending on which fill systemt they use (valves)...some can be as long as 20 minutes if they are not operating at 100%. i used to always fish while we waited...caught an 8lb Catfish once! ack! horseflys! they know where to wait for a meal. they get bad down in my woods later in summer...BIG suckers! using OFF is mandatory from now till mid Oct.

It took about 45 min to get thru the lock completely. about 15 min for the water to rise. That was my first time, therefore we took a little longer to look at everything. There was 2 locks, one for the smaller boats, and the second for the barges. We watched a barge pull in. It was amazing to see how close they got to the side w/o scraping the sides. Off would have been nice, but I would have needed a gallon or so!

maybe take a fly swatter next time? did anyone get bitten? those fuggers leave a hell of a welt! i'm looking out a window here at work at the double chamber #10 lock. i wish i could drive a boat or jetski to work. the river is starting to get back down to normal levels...they must have quit letting off water at the reservior...it was getting pretty full.

Yes, maybe put the top up next time. It was almost comical. Everyone running around the boat trying to get away from the bugs, but surprisingly no one got bit. It must have been the extra layers of sunscreen and sweat poring off everyone skin that kept them from bitting. The river was amazing, calm, clean, and smooth. We only saw about 3 other boats the whole day. Driving my boat to work everyday would be awesome, what could be better than to start the day on the water?
