I switched to steel after loosing three fish and three lures in one afternoon. Prior to that I had good luck with just normal line and cutting/retyping the lure after each fish. Had one big pike pull my kayak around for a while before I got it up to the side of the boat. When I reached over with my net it rolled hard and broke the steel leader where they have the little cinch pieces to make the loop. Pulled the free end right out of the cinch and swamp off with my lure in its mouth.

I live dangerously. I didnt take an accurate number but I caught 13 on one of my spoons and majority of them didnt have a steel leader. I know their teeth are razor sharp and braided line wouldnt last with a tooth hitting it, but if you keep your line up and they are just biting the spoon and treble hook they dont bite through the spoon. Just have to finesse them in, they do a couple runs but dont have much stamina.

Everything is still iced over here. I’ll probably go out this weekend to check a few spots and see if anything’s opened up enough to be worth trying.

snowing today! but tomorrow and next few days looks decent. I bought some #8 colorado blades to try out on my pike spinner lure. Supposedly the big blade makes a good vibration that the pike sense and cant resist!

caught 1 single about a week ago now and another single today, my wife caught one also, so far 3 for the season for me and 2 for my wife. The one I caught today was on a senko worm and it flipped out of the water upside down. I dont know how it didnt bite through the braided line since i was all wrapped up in its mouth

It's funny how many pike you'll catch while bass fishing. I seem to catch more pike while bass fishing than I ever did when i was targeting pike!
