$150 a day X 260 work days in a year = $39000 pre tax. That's IF they get a client every day. Cost of living is much higher than that around here.

in all fairness... they are a detailer.... that is not exactly "highly skilled labor" in most cases (now I totally understand there are high end detailers that are very "skilled" and they have been doing it for 25 years, but, for the most part, $40k a year detailing cars is actually on the "higher" end....

detailers at dealerships usually make $30k-$35k a year

But they don't have to pay for rent, soap, water, wax, and clay bars.

no I totally agree.... if you have your own detail shop, then yea I'd expect a higher cost....

I guess I'm just looking for a dealership detail

yea seriously. haha.... I almost died when my wife started showing me houses out here....

that's largely part of the reason I chose to buy in WV and make the 1 hour commute.

Considering my truck is always getting scratched up I think I would rather try my hand at learning to detail. I have come close a few times to buying a good polisher, but got just a few more projects left to finish. I know I won't have the eye that they do, but I would rather invest 4-500 in my own polisher, pads, and compound over giving it to some guy although I'm sure their work warrants it. Now if I had some blinded out Mercedes then I'm sure I would approach it differently, but that's how it goes when you daily a wheeler.

The first thing I did with my Gen 3 is wax it. It makes it so much easier to keep it clean since mud and dirt just runs off of it. My plan is to keep waxing it about 4 times a year to keep the protection on.

I was gonna go all out and get a rupes Bigfoot as I hear that is one of the safest for a beginner and want one to last. I'm sure I will snag one either at the end of this year or next year.

    A thing or two...
I'm probably not going to make it. I talked to my buddy, and he's heading over to hangout tomorrow.

A decent fluid transfer pump as you don't have a lot of room to maneuver the bottle to pour. My first diff/trans fluid change I made it work without one, but it was a massive pain in the ass. The second time, I killed two pumps (identical looking pumps from HF and VatoZone). The third time, I bought this one from Amazon, and it worked great. Maybe by the end of the year, it will be time for round 4.
