Legit question for you then. Why do you own the Tacoma in the first place? What is it about it that makes you want to keep it and mod it, if you so rarely drive it?

    fair question.

I enjoy hanging out with buddies working on trucks, BSing in person and online, coming out to meets and trail runs

It's my chance to get outside and into nature. Plus, the utility of a truck is never a bad idea to have around the house.

However, when I originally bought it, I used it as a daily commuter from Ashburn to Reston.... I didnt originally buy it to sit at the house 90% of the time haha

Another option you could consider, is get yet ANOTHER tacoma, but an older, cheaper one. Mine's an 05 with 170k miles on it, but it runs great. It's provided me hours of entertainment wrenching on it to get it running in tip top shape, yet my payment is only $200. It's a bit easier to swallow for a second vehicle, and I still get to do all the fun things with it. The downside to that is it's tough finding one in good shape at a good price. They're out there though. @Lots2Learn58 has an 05, with like 80k miles on it or something stupid low like that.

You could then swap over all your parts from your current truck. As long as you can get a good price on your 09 and find a cheaper, older one, it's a win all around. Since this is just something you're kicking around, you don't have to be in any rush.

oh I'm not in ANY rush at ALL. and that's a solid idea. I've even kicked around the idea of building an older 4Runner (late 90s / early 2000s) You can pick up one in decent condition for $5000 ish and I can drop a couple grand in it and have a SOLID rig... just order an Armor Package from Addicted Offroad for like $2200, winch, tires, roof rack and call it a day...

then I'd own it outright... have no car payment on that.... and my only car payment would be whatever commuter car I choose.

that way, I wouldnt feel obligated to drive it often, I can afford to have it broken down or under the wrench for whatever time necessary.

these are all just hypotheticals as well.... but I appreciate you guy's input for sure!

I dont really care about mpg on a rig like that since I'll have a nice commuter / daily driver

and it would take me 4 months (miniumum) just to get it built haha.... but 6 months? who knows

either way.... who cares how long I keep anything... lol I'll still be around either way

you have a nice daily now.. Prius. Just use the truck on the weekend. Who cares if you are using it enough to warrant making the payment. Or just pay it off, then you dont have to worry about a payment.
