    going to be fun!
Not that the commute is any better but maybe the West side like Reston, leesburg,Ashburn might not be bad now that the Silver line is open as this is what I am taking now....

66 sucks at pretty much all times of day and all days of the week.

Huge amount of eastbound traffic especially around 0700-1000 and 1500-1900 coming from Chantilly and Fairfax areas. (obvious rush hour)

Yeah, Silver Line just opened up, and expected to continue all the way to Ashburn in a couple years.

I don't think I have heard of these towns so I'll check them out. Trying to stay relatively close to the top of VA. From what I've seen, it'll be about a 25 mile commute at minimum, but that 25 miles will take at leat 45 minutes on a good day.

You can car pool to. People wait at the computer lots to be picked up by random people that need an extra person or two so they can take the hov lanes

Reston is on the west side of Fairfax County; Leesburg and Ashburn are both on the northeastern part of Loudoun County.

All these have pretty good shots to take the Toll Road (267) if you're willing to pay for its convenience (I've found the Toll Road usually at least moves, it's rare to be in stop-go traffic on it) or take Route 7, which I would say is pretty much as bad as 66.

Whenever I travel in rush hour around here, my general rule is to double travel time if you wanna get to your destination on time. Sometimes you get there sooner, but sometimes doubling travel time is not even enough.

Would the office be in the west side of DC as in within the city limits, or west side as in still in VA? Getting into the city sometimes can add an extra 30 minutes to travel just because there are only 5 bridges that go into DC unless you want to go up and around through MD which wouldn't be any quicker because the top side of the beltway is a train wreck 24/7.

I'm currently in MD, but will be moving down that way in the next few months as well to be closer to my office (in McLean) and am looking inside the beltway, and out towards Reston, Herndon, Chantilly/Fair Oaks. There are ways to avoid most, if not all, of 66 from there.. Rt. 7 will get backed up but the times that I have been on it its not nearly as bad as most of the other traffic (granted I deal with 495 and 270 in MD multiple times a day so I'm kinda immune to it at this point lol). I have a friend who works in Bethesda and lives in Reston and can make it to work in ~50 minutes during rush hour taking Rt. 7.

From what I have seen during my apartment search and from talking to my co-workers, there are really nice parts of Manassas and Fairfax city, but really the only way out is 66 or 50, both which suck.

Maybe look around Springfield too? You shouldn't have to deal with 95 much going into the city and from what i've heard the bottom side of the beltway isn't too horrible comparatively..

Anyone happen to know what size bit is needed for the bolts in a 2nd bed? Also is it a star or torx? I can never tell the difference.. Lol

You can find some non-primary roads to get through NoVA (Like Little River Turnpike) but if you're going to DC, the bridges are always a fucking parking lot. All of them.

I know many people that will commute as far as the pentagon, then take the metro the rest of the way in.

The office would be technically still in VA but close to the west side of DC. Like you, my office would be in McLean as well. I stayed in a hotel for a few days in Manassas and found some nice parts of the city. I would like to get as close as I could, but places really start to jump up in price by just going one city closer. Springfield looks decent. I haven't looked too much into it, but did take a quick glance. I'll have to look a little more into it.

I'll have to take a look at these non-primary roads a little more. Maybe take a weekend off and ride through the area to get a good feel for it. I don't mind driving a little ways but sitting in parking lots trying to get home sucks. Did that at my last job coming from Durham back to Raleigh on 540. As soon as I hit 540 traffic just took a dump and sat still. A 26 mile commute took an hour to get home and I'm trying to avoid that if possible again.

Thanks for everyones help. Looks like I've got a lot to look into still.

Any idea on this? I have an 06 DCSB that was originally from MI (I think). It has spots of rust all over the frame.

Commuting from Manassas sucks. You either have to take 28 or 66 & both blow. My wife works in Herndon off 28 & the toll road. It takes her about an hour each way. If your office is in McLean, I would look into Reston/Herndon, Vienna, or Sterling.
