    Hey Folks,

Random post. Escaped up to flag pole knob in the GWNF this weekend. I didn't camp at the summit. Ended up picking a nice spot along a stream. Got to love taking an extremely cold dip. It was hot during the day, but still pretty cold at night. Here are the highlights!

Was anyone with a Black Tacoma with a bullbar and bushwacker fender flares at Valentinos Pizza in Alexandria? If so, nice Tacoma. Had to do a double take when I saw it

It was awesome. I definitely needed it. I love my job (Forestry grants and research), but working in an office in DC can drive you a little crazy.

    Oh the cooking!

I cooked steak, potatoes, and corn for dinner. I started with a Sauvignon Blanc, but had the meal with Cave Ridge - Fossil Hill Reserve. Its a VA red blend and is very good (see the picture of me cooling it slightly). I had chicken sausage, eggs, potatoes and fruit for breakfast.

The drive isn't too bad. It took about 2 hours 30 mins to get from my house in Arlington to the start of the trail. For a trail ride, that's too long, but if your going to camp, then do some more exploring in the morning, it works nicely.

The trail is a fairly long loop, I suspect 20 miles, with countless side paths you can explore (be careful you can get lost off the main trail). I know 20 miles doesn't sound that long, but the ruts and rocks are bad enough that you have to take it slow on most of it. You can end up in WV if you explore enough. There's a lot out there.

Awesome. Maybe we can get a group together and head back out there sometime for an overnight trip.

I'm in South Arlington, very close to Fort Myer. I'm in that giant that's right off of Columbia Pika all the time. Most of the time in some sort of bike clothes, half about to fall over from my slippery road bike cleats. I have long curly hair..... somewhat rare in this area.

We should get a trip together sometime as long as you boys can play nice with my latina wife who is sensitive to tough guy stuff. You know, crudely talking about ass, getting in fights, breaking shit excessively loudly, etc.

I'll be sure to check out that app and track this trail better for you all! It's really a great option for us NOVA folks and encourage people to check it out. I need to explore the Edinburgh (sp??) trails next.

Oh nice. I'm not far from there.. I'm in Shirlington and go to the Giant off of South Glebe all the time haha

I'd be down for a trip somewhere. I want to go to flagpole, shoe creek, and potts mountain but i'd be down for anywhere else. My issue is that I'm busy a lot of weekends. :(

My girlfriend spotted someone in Chantilly this am. Sent me pics all pumped up about the Pelfrey front since mine is almost done.
