Took me 25 min getting home(should have been 10) the wind and amount of rain I was hydroplaning. Not much fun when you arent trying to swing back end around. Power was on and cut off, but came back quickly.
    Good to meet you guys.

I might venture out tomorrow to Taskers Gap area to take the family on some trails, get the truck off road and maybe get a hike in somewhere. Any hints of where to actually catch the trail etc? Or just follow the information on the GWNF web page? First time going out there.

The family had a great time going out to Assateague recently to do a little camping last week. Weather was hot and the bugs were out in force! I swear the horse flies followed us in the truck waiting for us to get out. Love being able to bring everything out there to the water's edge.

Anyone have some thoughts on winches? I'm waffling between a Smittybilt Gen2 X20 10k Gen2, the Warn VR10000s, or the Warn M8000-s. I like the waterproofing and wireless feature of the Smittybilt, plus the fact that it is $200 less than the warn models. Just want to see what people think as everyone has something positive and something negative to say about both brands

Tasters Gap is mostly ATV/bike trails. Peters mill run is literally right across the street though and it's an OHV trail. Pretty easy to get to..

Starting from the north is a little trickier to get to, but to start at the south end (in Edinburg) and go north (to Woodstock) you would just take 81 south to the Edinburg exit 279, go east on 675 towards route 11. It'll dead end in town at rt. 11, take a left (north) and you can stop at the Exxon right there to get the day pass. It's $5, but if you get stopped without one its something ridiculous like a $500 fine. Keep going north about 1/4 to 1/2 mile and turn right onto Edinburg Gap Road. Go a few miles and there's a gravel parking lot on your right for Taskers Gap with a sign and immediately on your left there's a little dirt road that goes up your hill which is Peters Mill Run.

When you hit the parking lot/end of the trail at the north end you just take a left and follow the switchbacks back down the mountain and it'll take you right back to 81 eventually. The directions on the GWNF website are correct, you've just got to keep your eyes peeled for it.

I've got the M8000-S. I'd rather not cheap out on a winch and be fucked the one time I actually need to use it. Heard really bad things about the Shittybilt unless you re-grease the entire gearing.

Any thoughts on Superwinch? Everyone seems to give them high marks with an asterisk saying that Warn is still better.

Not sure...I just know I'd rather have a Warn...there's a reason a lot of people have them. Gotta pony up a bit more but I know I don't want a chance of the winch crapping out when I'm in a bad spot.

I'll be headed down to Georgia to visit the gfs family next Friday. Any recommendations as far as where to stop/explore/eat? Going straight down 95 headed to Savanah.

Just throwing this out there in a couple Va threads, I'll be doing a few camping trips this summer/Fall and want any of you guys to meet up if you can! July 17th weekend I'll be at Potts mountain, September 4th (Labor Day weekend) I am going to Windrock park in TN, and October 17th weekend I'll be in Gore Va for the big dogs off-road fall crawl. If any of these sound like something you can do let me know and we will meet up, have some beer, some food, some fun, some wheeling. Thanks!

It was a good time. It was funny though because the day we left, we went to the beach (non OSV area) and there were very few bugs. The beAch was closed off just past the bull pen so we didn't get to drive much of the beach, not even close to VA section. We bought an annual pass so we'll have to get back out there again.

Went out there but I'm not sure if we got into the OHV trail or the ATV trail at Peters Mill. The map shows that they separate but we either missed it or it didn't split. Some portions near the beginning where a little narrow, dragging a few branches down the side. :( the family had a good time though. 6f66ddd5022db9c6f6616ba1b253e702_3b94e41cd1b38e7a37ce89f5b2b4b14862be238e.jpgeb43af74108517750e435ad78ee4d705_bd1ee3303dbd8b92b0d70e4351165fc42e627c5c.jpga16a2ce9fb6b6c4c1725dd5d78ac223a_2eeb8ef6bf9740ebb7dfc3f47881158c28fc0678.jpg

I have a superwinch ep...something (synthetic line) and it's been great. I haven't had any problems with it so far (going on 4 years I think). I went with it for two reasons....it was way lighter with the synth line and it fit my bumper better than others (expedition one).
