So probably not this late notice this year, but interested in the details on the trips, and what all Cape Lookout entails in order to attend? Do you need permits? Family friendly trip?

Amen, this week I still have students. It's just nice that its only a group of 8, 13 y/or that want to be here, which makes for much better days.

FML. Quick easy oil change turned to shit. Tried to get it knocked out early before it gets hot and muggy. One of the bolts in my skid plate oil filter access won’t come of. Weld but in the back came unwelded. Can’t get a wrench on it because of the weld and vise grips won’t grab it. And my angle grinder broke so I can’t cut it off. So much for an easy day. First day off in 2 weeks to just do my own thing.

You book a spot on a ferry to get your truck over. Permits are gotten on the island from the rangers. No paved roads, all sand. I didnt get stuck at all when I was there, except once but i got out without any recovery gear, and Im obviously 2wd. The only thing that was rough was the no-see-um bugs, so depending on your sleeping situation they can suck. And it gets hot so bring plenty of extra water.

The more crowded part of the island has bathrooms, the far end, where we went, you dig holes in between the dunes. But totally worth it for bonfires on the beach and being alone.

I mean, I knew Kristen was the one when she said yes in the middle of a trip where she was getting eaten alive by bugs and digging her own holes

Yes. Need to buy an angle grinder so heading up to do that in a bit. HF shit is cheap enough they are disposable. Break one, toss it and replace it.
