Well when you figure a new muffler would be right around $100 and then maybe $100 to a shop to do the work and you end up with a turn down exhaust. Yeah, much cheaper.

Let me know when you do it if you would. I might try to scavenge some pieces off your old system. Work out a trade or something. Instead of it just being thrown away at the muffler shop.

do you seriously think that's so easy that's it's like something you can just go out on a weekend and buy a welder and play around with some steel and whala you can weld. damnit i knew i did something wrong and there's also a difference between tacking some stuff together and understanding structural geometry, penetration, and fabrication

Take a welding class ,it's not easy but you can learn to weld it's not that hard but to do a SAS or any structural weld does require a lot of skill I wouldn't try it and I was certified at one time

I don't know how to weld and I bought a welder. Are you telling me that I wasted my money?

not in the least it saves me from having to tote mine to your house. but since this shit is so easy people should have at it apparently the ease of learning and doing the job would be why we're all paid so little they just need peple stupid enough to roll around in the dirt getting the shit burned out of them and you know damn good and well you weld. for whoever would like to get certified i encourage it evidenly its easy anyway. however realize that's not all there is to it it means you know the basics.

I had a hospital try to certify me one time, does that count? They said the certification came with a brand new fancy jacket.

I have actually come close to signing up a few times for classes. I would be interested in going to a class to learn if some of you guys were going to try to learn. I dont think I will ever get confident enough to do welds on my truck, but it would be cool to start building some sort of skill with it. I have only welded a few times in college, it was fun but not easy to do.

I dont want to pay him for everything. Hence learning myself. I dont need fancy welds. Just needed it to be welded. Im not going to pay for suspension stuff that I can do myself. Now that I know what to do, I will do it myself. For harder things like shackle flip or shock relocation, Ill pay. But if I know how to weld, I would at least try myself.

Theres a saying.. Built not bought

I agree with Justin, why pay someone when I can learn myself. Doesnt need to be certified. I am not a certified mechanic, but I work on my own truck. If I dont feel comfortable doing something, Ill pay. But for something like welding, I want to learn to do it myself. For my motorcycle projects, I dont keep them long enough, to make it worth it, to pay someone else. Usually I dont keep bikes for longer than a year. So I am just throwing away money if I pay someone to do a nice job. Why not just do it myself, quickly for the build, and then sell it..

And also, if I take it to a run of the mill "shop" they probably arent going to know how to do what I am asking. Or do it to the level that i want. Most places dont do custom stuff..

aka "oh your truck is modified, we dont work on it" or "oh you need something welded that isnt factory, we cant do it"

the thing nobody thinks of is if your welding anything structural on a bike or truck or whatever if you sell it and it brakes and god forbid causes an accident and they prove it to be your fault you could be held liable. that's one of the reasons i don't do things like brakes on other people's vehicles. it's a great skill to learn and you can eventually learn how to do some really cool stuff
