Ah I gotcha. For what it’s worth we used privacy channel 13 before and used CTCSS 103.5 hz. That was with frs though, so different main frequency, but the still same privacy channel. Seemed to work well

edit: and my midland came with a chart which said 103.5 for 13

 

Yeah I think it just varies between manufacturers and devices which I would have never have thought about. My old Yaesu says 107.2Hz for 13 while my new Baofeng says 100.0Hz for 13

 

What @EatSleepTacos said.... You can't run the same antenna for CB and GMRS. They're different frequency bands, so the antennas will be tuned different for the given bands. You could use the same primary cable from the radio to the antenna, but you would need on antenna tuned for CB and another tuned for GMRS that you swap when you switch radios.

 

Yeah that's what I mentioned further down. Both have NMO options and running the cable/power is the crappy part. I can easily do a new connector that will fix that and swapping antennas is a 10 second job.

you didnt want to try to hide it? Im putting mine under the passenger seat. The mic cable is Cat5, and I got an extension with a flat face plate. So I can store my mic when Im not using it

 

Yep. These are the freq’s. From the user manual of the radios you posted, and they match what @EatSleepTacos mentioned for channels.

Great thanks! I'd rather run a handheld for now. I may go pick this up today...who knows, I may drive up early tomorrow morning to fish before wheeling fpk. It all depends on how much I get done around the house today.

No I like it there. Unused space and I already had my Cb power And antenna cable there so it was wasy

 

As a heads up if you want to remain legal on GMRS, there's a $70 license that's good for 10 years. Can be purchased online from the FCC. Chances of getting caught without it are slim to none, so take that FWIW. Adam and I got ours.

Here is the Flagpole Knob info for tomorrow:

I am going to head out on Saturday. If anyone wants to join, i will be leading a group from Sheetz at 798 E Market St, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. We will meet up there at 9am.

Randy and Joe will have gotten there Friday and will be down at the lake when we get there, which is an easy drive if you wanna go down and join them. They will hopefully lock down a good area for us to camp on Friday, as it sounds like its been busy lately.


I am going to camp, so if you join, you need to get yourself down if you are not camping. Weather is looking to be good so camping should be a good time. It may rain BUT I'm making a big batch of gumbo and rice for dinner to share with the group if anyone is interested.


As far as radios, here you go:

If you have a GMRS, we will be on Channel 15, CTCSS privacy code 13.

If you have a baofeng, use frequency 462.550. Go into the menu and change R-CTCS and T-CTCS to 103.5Hz.
