Physically, yes I could build sliders. But I won't be building any products for sale. I just want to build cool stuff for my friends and I.

 

All of this stuff seems like alchemy to me, that's really cool.

 

It's a really fun hobby. Started two years ago by me thinking "I want this stuff done to my truck but I A) don't want to pay anyone to do it and B) don't trust anyone to do it properly. So I bought a welder and taught myself how to weld.

More like I've just seen what all is involved in this stuff and it's easy to mess it up. If I mess up my own stuff though, it bothers me less. The thing that kicked it off was a rear shock relocation. It has to all be set at certain angles, and the lower mounts set properly so bump stops engage at the right point. I was leery of someone else taking the time to do it properly.

My emblem overlays came. Anyone know where I can find rubbing alcohol (in our general area) to prep the chrome originals?

 

Almost any store will have the rubbing alcohol. Look in the women's section near all the finger nail paint crap.

Rubbing alcohol has been a HOT commodity during COVID.

 

Just use lighter fluid, the original cleaning fluid...

 

What kind of welder do you have? I've thought off and on about getting into welding but it's overwhelming the variety of machines out there; not sure where I would start.

 

I started with a really cheap, crappy welder to see if it was something I would even like. I ran that for longer than I should have. I'm not even going to link it because it was a piece of shit.

Then I upgraded to this, which was a heck of a step up. It's a fine welder. Then recently I wanted something with 240v capability, so I bought this one. I love it a lot.

 

So you do straight MIG and no stick welding?

 

Correct, I've never even tried stick welding. Mig is good for 99% of what you need for these trucks. The other 1%, tig would be beneficial.

 

Good to know. I assume Mig is good for other household items too, like oh let's say fixing broken wrought iron chairs, building a rail around a utility trailer, making a ski tow bar for a boat, etc?

 

Yep! It would be good at that too.

 

Or e free gas! Great fort parts cleaner.
