That sounds odd and especially so for a Toyota... there aren't a lot of energized wires so barring a battery that has gone bad and is leaking voltage across terminals, it's sounding like you might have an issue somewhere with your radio circuit. How are you mounting the antenna? Are you drilling into bare metal? My Jeep had issues with the bracket that mounts on the fenders not getting a strong enough electrical ground so I had to add a ground strap to the bracket. That massively cleaned up my signal.

If all else fails, you might find a power conditioner but if it's acting up with the truck off, I can't see how that's an interference problem.

 

Anyone that doesnt have these and are new to wheeling should buy them. Thats a good price

 

The antenna is mounted to a ditch light extension that Midland sells for their GMRS radios.

 

Wonder if you're not getting a ground then... I know a ditch light bracket was garbage on my Taco for the Kenwood.

You could try adding a short ground wire in like 10AWG and see if that helps... if it does I'd swap it out for a strap. Just make sure you sand the bracket down where the NMO makes contact on the bottom and around the bolt hole where the strap mounts.

I'm gonna say grounding isn't the issue with GMRS. I'm running the basic bullshit magnetic antenna that came with mine of a vinyl wrapped roof and have no issues. Just saying.

 

Yeah that's what's so weird about the noise being there with the truck off. At that point you've isolated the radio so barring a bad battery issue, it has to be something in the radio, power delivery, or antenna/feedline.

I've read a few good things about this, I believe some reviews had it way over John Deere, any specific model? How does it handle hills?

I am pretty sure the goat no longer lives...

 

Most of my use was on commercial mowers but Scag and Toro are solid. We used to put them through a lot of shit considering it was a bunch of college kids running them. I believe they both make consumer level stuff though. I’d definitely recommend zero turn though
