I use my angled Mobtown sliders as a step every time I get in the truck...without grip tape even. But I do like to live dangerously. :D

@fatfurious2, where did you get the driveshaft?

Crosby's is in an area we like to call "DUMASSAS" - Situated between Dumfries and Manassas. Technical it's Independent Hill though (formerly Conova) and their crabs arrive from the bay almost daily as a they have more than 20 years...

Few questions about Flagpole Knob because Google is not being helpful whatsoever:

    • My understanding is there are two main paths--the "dirt road" and a more technical path. Is that so, and how difficult are they? Are either tight?
    • Is a permit required and, if so, where do you typically go for one?
    • Does it get crowded?

Yes there are two ways. No permit is required. It can definitely get crowded but isnt often. The harder way isnt TOO technical but I personally wouldn't tewll you to do it alone having never been. A few sections would warrant a spotter.

Appreciate that. Like last time, I am planning to go with a friend (and hopefully no medical emergencies this time). I think I want to start on the dirt road and do the more difficult trail going back.

Is there an address or set of coordinates everyone typically uses to get to the trail head or the road?

There are three ways up. The easy way is a maintained gravel road. A sedan could drive up it. The second is coming up by switzer lake. It's a bit bumpier but a stock truck could do it. The third way is up Union Springs road and is more difficult. That's where you'd want some minor upgrades to feel comfortable, though a stock truck *could* get up that way if you're experienced or have someone experienced there to spot you on your way up.

No permit needed. No it doesn't typically get crowded.

I’ve never gone down union springs but I’d rather go up the hard way and down the easy way. The hard way can take a while.

btw my truck is stock height with 265/75/16 tires and skids/sliders and I’ve been fine.

I don't have sliders yet and have some latent paranoia about my OEM tube steps lol

You're stock, right? Or mostly stock? Didn't you most recently do this?

There are only like one or two spots where the tube steps might be an issue. Just gotta take it slow there. You’ll know them when you see them haha
