It's that pinch weld hammering that is omitted in his pep talk!!

--> this guy still hasn't added that "simple" hammer job on my To-Do list:anonymous:

Think of how mean they'd look on your truck. Though you would need some wheel spacers up front to clear your UCA's.

Stuff that my wife thinks I don't need.
I finally just got to the point and did it. A little notching and a BFH. And magic. My off-road tires will grab the liner from time to time. Which makes little sense, but I just work here, man.

Best I can do is construct a large raft out of paper machete and push it in the general direction of Hawaii. Whether it makes it there or not is anyones guess.

Yeah, it would be great to knock it off the list this weekend, especially if I'm already dropping the wheel to be mucking around with this leaky driver side SPC ball joint issue. Trying to get the truck up on the in-laws 2pt lift this weekend to reseat the ball joint and see if that fixes the grease leaking issue.

After the trip out and back from @3pooches (plus all the fun times there) and then pulling my trailer with plumbing materials (less than 1k load in trailer) the bottom of the boot/upper spindle arm has a nice thick grease "love handle"!

Figured when you pay a "fabricator*" to do your CMC the pinch weld would be included:rofl:...but I guess you get what you paid for!!!!!!!!!!

*=I kid, I got what was discussed and I am only giving Randy crap!!

I know I'm way late on this, but I used to use these all the time. When installing larger exhaust systems on import cars back in the day(namely WRX's and Evo's), they would typically cause a check engine light to illuminate due to the decrease in exhaust restriction, and thereby; higher flow rate. Usually when the ECM sensed this variance, it would throw the vehicle into Limp mode and richen the mixture as a precaution. So, we would take these non-foulers and install them over/onto the 02 sensor, thread them back into the exhaust; they space the sensor up and out of the exhaust juuuuust enough for them to no longer be able to detect this difference, and return the vehicle to factory base fuel trims.

TLDR; They worked great in the past when installing exhaust on cars, to turn off the CEL after the install. As for your particular scenario; no clue(although it honestly sounds like they would work just the same for what you're dealing with). lol

Appreciate the response, I was starting to wonder if anyone had heard of them, which would be worrisome if no one had. I haven't driven the truck since Monday but will be driving out to Harpers Ferry Saturday with a few hundred pound load in the back. If the CEL is going to come back I suspect it will be then; if it does I'll order a couple and throw them on.

For what they cost, why not, right? They were a godsend for my broke-ass back in the day; they were the only way I could turn off my CEL without an expensive standalone ECM or Cobb Accessport....

Here's to hoping that your light just stays off, and you don't need to worry about it any further. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll keep you posted. Thinking about buying them anyway TBH. I mean, they're only $30 each for the angled ones and $15 each for the straight ones (I'd have to check and make sure the straight ones would fit).

I guess so. I didn't even mention safety or tech though... but I see your point.

Although I have heated and COOLED seats in my 2012 GX, don't think 2017 Tacomas have that :D - Plus knee airbags, 9 speaker audio system, touchscreen Navigation, three rows of leather seats. I actually don't know what would be more advanced about the 2017 Tacoma besides having Entune...

Just stirring the pot here. I love Tacomas and have had two. Really the best thing about the GX is V8 power if you can stomach the MPGs.

I don't really have a dog in this fight but I will say this is a valid point. I went from a newer truck back to an older Jeep and gutted it out for about 5 years. Finally started to miss the modern features which is how I ended up in the Tacoma I have now.

Today is my 1 year anniversary of joining TW. Man, a lot has happened since then. Picked up my truck from the dealer Feb 22 and then proceeded down the rabbit hole with mods. Bought a welder this summer and started going down that rabbit hole as well. And have done some cool wheeling and met some fine folks along the way. I'm way cooler now than I was a year ago! (I know that's subject to interpretation o_O)
