I've never had an issue with my coopers.

But I dont run offbrand tires so I can see why he had sidewall issues after looking up what a mesa tire was

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I blew out two sidewalls (Union Springs, Sleepy Creek) on the A/T Dueler Revo 3's. Now I have the KO 2's.

Those duelers are barely an AT tire just from looking flat the tread design.

Is this your first set of ko2s? I hated them in the winter.

Old KO2s or the new ones? The old ones weren't rated for ice and snow, but the newer ones are. I had the newer ones on my truck in Boston for years and loved them in the winter.

My new KM2s haven't seen snow yet, but between them and the mechanical rear locker... Winter driving should be interesting.

So you can usually hassle a deal on certificates, I got my 5 covered, but "only paid for 4" when I bought my 5 tires a few years and nearly 30k later I blew out my sidewall on the reverse leg of FPK last month. Took the truck in and said I had a blown tire in the bed and they turned around and replaced it, balanced it and threw it on the rear passenger, cost me 41 bucks for the new tire with the certificate coverage.

Edit: And I didn't even wash the blown wheel/tire combo, no questions about what I was doing/where it was, etc. 20210821_151406.jpg

The new KO2's. And I actually liked the Revo 3's. Great traction in all conditions and a good bite in the snow. If the sidewall was better, I would have stuck with them. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the KO2's thus far. They don't seem to do as well in the rain. When I can get another set of wheels, I'll get two more of the Revo's (I have three including the spare) as daily's and keep the KO2's for off-road.

I've never seen the need to purchase certs for tires.

The reason is, I figure if I blow a tire, itll be on a tire with decent mileage (like above 40k).

At that milage, youd want to replace 2 of them, not just one. And I dont think they would replace 2.

I learned the lesson of not getting it, even at extra cost on my wife's previous vehicle. We declined at purchase as she didn't drive far to work or a much outside of that. In six months we had replaced two tires at a higher cost than the additional protection would have cost. I bought it on my Focus and it paid for itself in spades, including a new wheel. The tires from Costco come with it, so for me it's a no brainer now.

Depends on usage I guess. I tore a sidewall on mine with 4k miles on them. New one mounted and balanced OTD was $41 since I had certs, so they've already paid for themselves. If I use the certs again, I'll come out on top.

I'm gonna have to put bus tires on next. I've seen some nasty ass cuts on those bad boys lmao (not done by me). They have tread depth indicators on the side wall for a reason, but they're thick af

Going camping this weekend and am thinking about hitting up Potts. I've never done it before so wanted to ask if it could be done solo without a winch.

No way. It can barely be done with a winch in some spots. I've gone out with Randy before and still struggled to get through spots and watched someone grenade a diff.

Negative. I’ve done it maybe a dozen times and have to winch most of the time over a few spots.

Whenever anyone asks to join me, I tell them they must have full armor and be ok with using it, because you will smack it on rocks.

Thanks for the quick consensus!! Guess I'll have to save it for when I get my bumper back. Have the skids, the sliders, and the 295s but there is no replacement for a winch.

Anyone in the nova/fairfax/Alexandria have an M/T 3rd gen I can talk to who also previously owned an A/T 3rd gen?
I’ve always had Manuals and when I got my current truck I could t find any manuals at the time and settled for the automatic. I was wondering if anyone was around the area as I know y’all do meet ups. Would be nice to pick someone’s brain in person on their experiences.

I am getting that itch again but prices are insane. I saw Koons had a TRd OR for 54k without the premium tech package.
