Thank y’all for the info! I’m positive my conversations with Ryan will get me a “W” in trivia night. Ill end up reusing some and replacing others.

How does SAE/SUS related to force applied @y=mx+b?

That i'm not sure on. SAE I know is an acronym for society of automotive engineers and are usually a set standards that a product must meet or grading scale. ie SAE 5w-30 has standardized properties it must meet.

SUS looks like another way to compare the viscosity of fluids by grading, similar to SAE standard

kinda like 5 or 30 isn't the actual viscosity of the fluid, its just a way to grade/score its viscosity and compare to others. the real units of dynamic viscosity are like lb*sec/ft^2. like the viscosity of water is 0.0000234 lb*sec/ft^2 and straight SAE 30 is 0.008 lb*sec/ft^2, and that would be a lot for the front of a Valvoline bottle

combined spring and damper systems can get really complicated quickly. the force output from a damper/shock is proportional to a dampening coefficient, "c", and the velocity of the piston. However in most of the work I've done, we're calculating for the "c" value for desired system output, or utilizing the dampening coefficient with other parameters like mass and spring constant to determine steady state (long term) system response. Unfortunately, we didn't really look into the relationship between the shock oils, valving, and how those factors affect the dampening coefficient

I'm about to do the same thing for my Mobtown sliders, since they are off my old truck and sitting in my garage now. Clean them up, add fresh coats of paint, and replace all the hardware that I can through McMaster Carr. Thank goodness for @y=mx+b's post...it will help with my selection process. Also going to do my Mobtown sliders, and reminded me that I need to find an exhaust shop over here that can do a proper re-route for me.

Edit: and if any of you all know of some used F5s coming up for sale...hook a brother up!

Welp, heard back from insurance yesterday. The Tacoma is a total loss. Not a big surprise, really. The payout was nice and I didn't see any reason to argue with it. Not sure how long the process takes from here, but it's moving forward. I have some ideas of where I'm going from here. I definitely want another trail/camping rig. I enjoy my time spent with you yahoos.

I wasn't able to grab nearly everything I wanted off the truck. I doubt the tow company would've cared, but the truck was wedged into a line of cars and it was super muddy. And what I did get took me three hours. Not ideal.

I'll get a list together and post it at some point. I will say that I wasn't able to get most of the big stuff off the truck. No suspension, and no bumpers (front one was toast anyway). No skids or sliders (see muddy comment).

@ilubtimmyhos has helped many of us when getting started on lifts. I can lend a hand if needed.

@crashdb glad they finally totaled it/gave you a fair $ so you can get on with your life. Looking forward to your new rig!

Find the part number of what you want and then search the web by that. I'm helping a friend build his and we just bought some 6112 and Icon RXT's from Amazon of all places, and found the rear 7100s on Summit Racing. The parts are out there if you look hard enough.

I exclusively use the clicker to unlock and lock because I think the little beep and light flash is cute, now this has been brutally taken away from me for the 3rd time. I'm in agony dave

I have bought the last 2 for the rear doors from a guy on ebay with lifetime replacement, so I'll probably go there again

Thanks again, Randy. I'll have to see how much shipping would be. I was leaning toward the 17's, but at this point beggars can't be choosers, haha.

Definitely not cheap but I’d be happy to facilitate the sale. I could buy them from the guy and deal with shipping for you because it wouldn’t be difficult.

I appreciate that. I'll let you know as soon as I can get a ballpark number...don't want to pay as much for shipping as what the price of the wheels are, haha. I need to figure out a way to get one of those business fedex accounts while living over here...

Edit: what are your thoughts on the 16x8 with 0 offset? Just won't poke out as much, right? Not too concerned about the brake upgrade thing, but I was considering it.

I think 16x8 0 is a lot more reasonable than 17x9 -38. It won't poke out as much but that also means less rubbing. The 17x9 -38 is a really aggressive wheel, it's what I have on my truck.

Oh, yeah...I was going to look for the 17x8.5 -10. That's what my Ray10s were and I ran 255s on them, which was perfect. I'm not ready for anything like a 17x9 yet (maybe never).
