I like woodworking and finishing. There are ways to make it "pretty" and functional. The birch is a good start. But if you're going to cover it with a solid finish, step down a little to a regular plywood with a smooth finish. Same function and you can keep a little more of your money.

it's definitely a solid spot for projects. slides in general get kinda pricey when they need to hold up to a lot of weight and I'm sure theirs are quality so I'd say its a good spot specifically for that.

To be honest I built mine out of regular 1/4" plywood for the drawer and top/bottom of the outer shell then used 2x8s for the sides of the outer shell. If you wanted it all plywood then you'd probably want to use thicker plywood, for the shell at least. I was able to put a 65 quart cooler full of ice, food and drinks on top of mine with no problem. I have the L-track from mcmaster carr and some of their attachment points as hardware and it's good to go. I've thought about putting slides under the drawer to replace the UHMW but it might be more money than it's actually worth.

I almost used MDF until I realized that a sheet of it weighs like 100+ pounds and probably wouldn't last as long...

MDF does paint well, but it is heavy AF and is essentially compressed and resin filled cardboard. It also doesn't hold screws well because of this. I'd agree that plywood is the best for this application

Birch plywood is nice, but I agree with Tiny that its probably overkill for this application. I like the sanded pine plywood from the home cheapo, and I'd avoid the beat to shit splintery stuff unless you were going to carpet it. Sanded ply also does not have voids in the plys, like cheaper plywood does. I made my desk top out of the sanded ply and it has held up well to me using it every day for the past 3 years. I like water based poly for the surface finish because it doesn't yellow the wood and dries relatively quickly.

Another thing, the hardwood plywood, like the maple and red oak that home depot offers, is usually poplar plys with a thin thin veneer on the surface, so it chips really easily. The sanded ply is all pine and they use nice thick plys that don't chip when cutting

It's a hybrid, danggit! Literally 3 routes that have been getting electric bendies and 2 electric buses. My luck lol
    PXL_20220401_110721393.jpg

On the bright side, the hybrid bendies that we have are the only ones in our fleet with seats inside the bendy part so that's fun

I think the most important thing here is: can you catch air in that thing?

An absolute steal of a deal down here if anyone is interested. MSRP of the tent is $3600, rack is $1k and tonneau cover is $1k.

Anyone headed today or tomorrow? I'm getting a little stir crazy. I've been working from home for three weeks and just filled the truck yesterday for the first time in over a week. Not complaining about the saved $$$, just not used to the truck not moving.
