Who does Costco outsource their insurance to? I've heard from coworkers with Tesla's that Tesla has their own insurance now also as an offering. Wondering if Costco does the same? I am too far for membership but if the insurance compares to USAA then its worth taking a look maybe. Never knew of them offering insurance.

    EDIT: looks like its Connect

I just switched to progressive yesterday actually haha. My roadside assistance is at $150 coverage coming from Geico which was $100. I'm saving almost $700 a year switching though. I think when I checked USAA it was also $100 roadside but basically the same price as Geico even though my renters insurance is through USAA.

I have had no issues with Progressive when it came to claims etc just the towing is capped at 75$ per incident and the 370$ for a 50mile tow is a loaded 7$ per mile or so. USAA is close to double for car insurance with the same coverages currently selected even though I have property with them. Going to sign up for AAA it seems with the ultimate package; the 150$ lockout seems interesting. Might be able to recoup fees by getting additional vehicle keys programmed each year.

Just logged in and towing and labor now shows 150$
    upload_2023-9-20_9-42-39.png
not sure if the total would have been 370+150=520$ for the tow or what was going on.

That may be worth it, I may remove the roadside and add AAA haha.

I know right now one of my keys is worn out to the point it doesn't work every time. Might be time for a new spare key.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Connect is correct. And when we looked a few years ago with our relocation, USAA wasn't even in the ballpark. Not sure how far you are, bit I generally save 12-14 cents on gas and we buy bulk paper supplies and food stuff. Not all of the prices are the best, but they are hard to beat in most areas. And they have travel and auto purchase discounts as well. And most of my Rx supplies are done there.

too far for a costco, friends in Miami had BJ's and plan their fuel stops based on the locations for a BJ's. Neighbors use costco to book flights all the time and go shopping there. Would make sense for me to get a membership based on the househouse size but distance isnt worth it.

I'm still driving my hooptie from two decades ago.....

There are a handful of counties in VA that have no emissions testing. Register the car with a friend out in those areas.

Wifey picked up a small pumpkin at the commissary the other day. She just sat it on the front porch to surprise me. I think it’s cool.

I mean if its 98 and older you can register as an antique anywhere and no emissions or inspection needed anyway.. just have a couple rules to follow for antique

Frederick and I think Clarke are emission testing free. That's why I have a TDI for a commuter.

You will be super limited on miles per year driven.

It's why I took off my antique plates and run regular now on my landcruiser

They don't check though. One time registration fee of $50, can't drive it every day, and cant go more than 200 miles from your address.

If I only drive it 3 days a week into work, and take my truck out on the weekends, im fine. Just need to have another vehicle with normal registration - I have 2. The truck and my motorcycle.

My friend with the 60 series drives it every weekend to a few cars and coffee. (Probably helps if your speedo/odo doesn't work anymore too)

But how many motorcycles in that period?

Yeh, "they" say you can't use for daily transportation, like...driving to work.

    D. Antique motor vehicles and antique trailers registered with license plates issued or authorized for use under this section shall not be used for general transportation purposes, including, but not limited to, daily travel to and from the owner's place of employment, but shall only be used:

    1. For participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, and similar events;

    2. On the highways of the Commonwealth for the purpose of testing their operation or selling the vehicle or trailer, obtaining repairs or maintenance, transportation to and from events as described in subdivision 1, and for occasional pleasure driving not exceeding 250 miles from the residence of the owner; and

    3. To carry or transport (i) passengers in the antique motor vehicles, (ii) personal effects in the antique motor vehicles and antique trailers, or (iii) other antique motor vehicles being transported for show purposes.
Just say every drive to work is for pleasure. We all take great pleasure in our work and commutes, right?!

I just registered my 80 series as an antique here in WV. The only restriction in WV is you're limited to driving it from "about noon" on Friday thru Sunday unless you're going to a car show. Well hell, every time I drive it I'm showing the car to all the other drivers on the road! But no inspection and 10 year registration period, and the fact it's not my DD, make it a no brainer to get the antique plate.

This is the way! AAA is totally worth it.

If they find out you're misusing your tags you lose the right to anquie plates for 5 years.

"Any owner of an antique motor vehicle or antique trailer registered with license plates pursuant to this section who is convicted of a violation of this section is guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor. Upon receiving a record of conviction of a violation of this section, the Department shall revoke and not reinstate the owner's privilege to register the vehicle operated in violation of this section with license plates issued or authorized for use pursuant to this section for a period of five years from the date of conviction."

That said, you would have to find a really bored officer to go through with the investigative process to prove you guilty of violating the rules for antique plates. *not legal advice*
